Have you discussed going to the hair salon? I got my girl all hyped up about it for almost a month prior to the actual visit. By the time we got there, she was absolutely psyched to be getting her "first big-girl haircut!" We comb her hair every morning and I give her the option: ponytail, barettes, or head band? How many ponytails? If she won't sit still, I tell her that she's going to have messy hair--that gets her to sit still for just long enough to make tidy pony tails. I also have her pick a "spot" (it can be the faucet, a flower on the backsplash tile, or herself in the mirror) and freeze so I can have her ponytails straight. We do single tails, pigtails (2, even), multiples (3 in front-top, split to 2 in back), braids, and even little buns (like Princess Leia). Very rarely, I'll just leave her hair down (it gets very tangled and she's started chewing on the ends--yuk!). Good luck, at this age, the smallest things can be a battle!

Do you know how to french braid? My girls hated stuff stuck in their hair, well I don't either, it gives me a headache and always falls out. I used to braid in headbands, clips, you name it. A small braid is tight enough to hold the hair for long periods but loose enough that it doesn't pinch.

Another benefit is the moms that cannot braid will hate you because their daughters want it too. Mwahahahahahaha

You can learn to 'french braid', you can use two small braids at the front of her hair & pull them back to a small pony at the back of her head very 70's retro hippy! Try braiding her hair at night & taking out the braids in the morning for a cute look!

Rows are adorable. Twisted or braided..
part her hair ear to ear. half inch parts all the way across the front straight back. Take that half inch of hair and iether twist it or braid it, pulling in more hair as you go, until you get to the end of the row, put elastics in. That will pull all her hair out of her face, even the overgrown bangs. It lasts a week or so. If you get good, you ccan do it on an angle, or run the run the rows together until they all end in one ponytail.
I also like when people section off little boxes of hair, making a row of ponytails across the front, then another row behind them, pulling the hair into each other ponytail, to make it all connected. The little hispanic and black girls at our school always have the very cutest hairstyles. They take a little time, but they last.

My granddaughter wears her hair in a side pony tail some times. Also, you could french braid it. Does she like head bands?

I'm a fan of headbands. If you find ones that aren't staying in place, you can use your hot glue gun to add little beads of glue to the underside of the headband. When the glue dries, it does a great job of keeping the headband from slipping, especially when little ones tend to have such fine hair.

If your daughter's hair has enough "oomph" for this to work, you can part her hair down the middle and do two little french braids on either side. This is really frustrating with super-fine hair, but if you do it while the hair is wet, it will stay in all day.

When my daughter was little she absolutely loved when I made her hair into a little bun as far to the top of her head that I could get it! Said it made her look like a princess and it's so easy once you get the hang of it. Just brush her hair up and make a high ponytail then twist it around and use another hair tie to wrap around and hold the bun. Sounds complicated but once you get the hang of it it's very easy. Loved it because it doesn't use bobby-pins or hair-pins and it's fast and easy. My daughter wasn't always thrilled with barrettes either but once I let her start picking them out she got more interested. Good luck!!!

I do a full pony tail, two little ones on the sides, two full pig tails (nothing hanging) or just the top and sides up. I ask DD if she wants one or two and if she wants big tails or little ones. Then I put in the barrets or do-dads that won't otherwise stay. Sometimes we also braid it.

Try pulling just the middle/top part of her bangs back with a small pony, a braid off to the side. Will she wear those tiny claw clips? Those work good.

My girls' hair is long, and sometimes I pull the front section that would be bangs over to the side and braid to keep it out of their faces. Sometimes instead of a braid I'll make it a small little pony that goes to the side - not half a pony, just a small one. They also like pig tails (puppy dog ears they call it) and I just started doing small ones on the top and leaving the rest long. THey also like their pig tails braded.
