D.P.
Is he tugging at his ears? I'd just check the temp every day (maybe morning and night) and keep a general eye out....
I'll bet he's growing! Or ready to take a big developmental leap--walking maybe?
Ladies -
Might be a growth spurt, might be teething, but I'd like your input to see if this warrants calling the doctor. Our son, 10 months old, has been sleeping a lot, 8pm - 6:30 am, an hour at 9, an hour at noon, and an hour at 3. He pecks at breakfast and lunch, but eats a hearty dinner. Hubs also reports that he is cranky. No fever, or signs of sickness.
Ideas?

My guess is teething. Is his poop weird? Mine always got weird runny/mucusy poop when they were cutting teeth.
If this was my kid, I wouldn't take him to the doctor unless he had a high fever or something like that. Babies go through weird phases with sleeping and eating all the time.
I'd suspect teething.
I would have suggested hand foot & mouth, but since he does have an appetite for dinner and no fever, it probably is not it.
As far as the sleep is concerned, it seems to be a normal amount of hours in a day for a 10 month old, but usually at this age, kids are down to 2 naps, and go to one big nap sometime after a year of age. He is probably just going through a stage... kids will often eat much better at one meal. And he may just be learning more and becoming more "independent" which may explain the crankiness. That being said, if it has been a sudden change, and his sleeping is erratic, it could be teething or an ear infection... both which may cause these symptoms and no fever. Try giving him some tylenol/motrin.... If it helps, it could be that something is causing him pain. Call the ped. if it lasts for more than a few days.
Most likely teething... if there's no fever and he's eating (even if it's just picking), then no need to call the doctor. At this age, most of his nutrients should still be coming from milk/formula- with table foods being mostly for exploration and experience. As long as he's having regular "diaper activity" and isn't lethargic (different than sleeping a lot), he's probably getting some new chompers or getting ready for a growth spurt!
