Local Vacation and Sons Flag Football Game

We are headed on a local vacation this Thursday, about 90 minutes from home just for 3 nights. We had to cancel our week long Disney trip due to my husband and I starting new jobs at the beginning of the month, so we figured this was still a way to get a little bit of a break from the norm. Anyways, my sons both play on the same flag football team and my husband is 1 of the 2 coaches. There are 11 kids on the team. My husband already said he would cancel practice on Thursday so we can get to the hotel early enough to enjoy some of the day on Thursday, which is great! The hotel is also closer to his work, so he will just meet us after, and still go to work on Friday. However, he wants to drive the 90 minutes each way to come home for the football game on Saturday. He said the boys have a commitment and he wants them to uphold it. I get that, but it's only one game and we're on vacation. Not to mention that will be the only day my husband is there all day with us. I won't be mad if they go, but I just think it's nice to give them a break as well. What would you do?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Sounds good to me! My daughter and I can find a nice coffee shop or just chill in the room :). Thanks mamas! I'll only give support for them going back to play!

I think that your husband has a good head on his shoulders and is being very considerate to the other 9 children on the team. It would not really be fair to the other children if you husband made a coaching commitment and then didn't show up to one of the games.

I think your boys are lucky to have their Dad modeling real commitment to his kids and his community.

I guess I might feel a little annoyed too, but I'd keep it to myself and support my husband doing what good men do!

Have a fun trip!

I agree with your husband. Not only do your boys have a commitment to the team, your husband does as well. It will say a lot for his leadership and team spirit that they traveled back for the game.

If your hubby wants to do all that driving, let him. Sounds like a great opportunity to get yourself to a spa or go for a mani pedi or take a huge nap.

I think dad has made it clear this is what he wants and given a compelling reason. I bet the boys WANT to play or they wouldnt have signed up. At this point, all you have to do is back him up and enjoy some time for yourself.
