Hi,
I have long hair and want to keep it that way. It is all the same lenghth and now I have like a "pouf" on the front top of my head and I put the rest up (have to to keep out of way). I have been wearing it this way for prob. 10 yrs. I am 43 yrs old and sometimes just get tired of looking at it this way. I thought of a curly perm but dont know if that would make things easier or not.? I wonder if a perm would be easier/less time consuming to "fix"? The lenghth is just past my bottom, but is not real thick/ alot more on the thin side.
Thanks again,
K.

I tend to have long hair, but periodically cut it off, usually when I find that all I'm doing with it is a single braid or ponytail. I recently cut it to just below my shoulders and got some angles in the front and layers in the back. It plays with my natural wave (I don't really have curls though). I told her I needed to still be able to do ponytails and she got it just right. Bonus - my husband loves it.

My mom has gotten perms, and it varies. Some have not seemed as easy to tame as others. Depends on the perm. Maybe instead of a tight curl you should try a body wave. Do you have a salon in mind? A good stylist will help you figure out what will work for your face and hair and life.

You could keep it to your mid-back and still have plenty of length. Also, consider donating the extra inches. I did that a few years ago. Some places discount the haircut for donated hair. You can always ask.

I also agree. I had waist-length hair. It was very difficult to style and deal with so I would just always put it up in a bun or ponytail. I decided to go with a more mommy appropriate style and I cut it off to a couple of inches below the shoulder. I am sooooo happy I did. And to most people, I still have long hair. I can style it very quickly which makes me look so much better. And still I can put it up in a ponytail if I am short on time or doing something where I don't want hair in my face. I think what the previous responder said is great advice. If you don't want to cut it but want a different look, go with some side-swept bangs (if you have the kind of face and hair for it) and some layers that frame your face. I was afraid I would be so upset when all that hair was gone but now I look at it as a great relief and I am so happy I did it. My husband loves it too and all my kids (I teach high school) think it looks great. I think the really long hair ages women and doesn't keep us looking as young as we think.

As a hairstylist, I say please don't perm it! Its just not a modern look, which is what it sounds like you need. Cut it! You'll feel better and look better. It doesn't have to be short, just take several inches off and probably some long layers through the bottom will give you more shape and it will appear fuller than it actually is. Let me know if you need a stylist!

I had never cut my hair until I joined the Navy. It was down to the backs of my knees. I am native american so it was thick and strait. IT was as thick at the ends as it was on my head. I donated 3 sections to locks of love. I loved to french braid it or I would do the topy tail thing. I don't know if you remember topsy tail thing but it was a pony tail but twisted upside down and it is really cool and it gives you something different.

Hi,
I had long hair until about a month ago. I think I wore it in a pony tail for 473 days in a row! I needed to make a change. I cut off over 6 inches. Now my hair is just my shoulders. And I love it! Should have done it sooner.

My hair is also stick straight. Because of the new length, my hair now flips a bit on the ends at the shoulder. Sometimes I even put 5 to 6 hotrollers in the give a little bounce.

Don't do a perm, they just damage your hair. And I would avoid bangs, too. They only work if you can carry thick bands. Wispy bangs can age you.

If you are determined to keep it long - go with soft long layers are the bottom to give it movement and the some tapering around your face.

Good luck.
