My daughter will be turning 1 next month and I have a few things in mind, but I was wondering if there is anything that your kids really liked at this age. My dughter is walking if that helps. Your suggestions can be for indoor or outdoor.

What can I do next?

A wagon. I had one for my youngest and when he was smaller we could walk everywhere (library, park, small grocery trips etc.) with it. There was room for him to take toys and play with them that a stroller doesn't offer. As he got to big to ride in it, he began to take his toys for rides.

If your daughter likes pushing toys -(my boys enjoyed pushing a toy lawn mower around)you could buy either a toy lawn mower or vaccuum cleaner. If she likes riding toys, you can get ride-on cars/toys.

I hope this helps.

My daughter is now 17 years old and so it has been a long time. I remember her getting little ride on toys that she could move with her feet, it was a car with a handle on the back so she could ride or push it. She also got books. My son got a small mower. I think my daughter also got a toy sweeper. I hope this helps a little.

Made a big mistake with our first two by buying toys that were above their age group. The simple, basic toys that we grew up with are just what they are called-- classic. Try anything that will fit into her little hands and are safe to mouth. At this age, don't buy anything that you aren't likely to play with her. You can't ever fail with wooden blocks, they are a total hassle to deal with as far as having to clean them up all the time but, they are so good for a child when it comes to fine motor skills and such and they can be played with for so many years. Lessons learned have taught me that simple is better. Congratulations on reaching this wonderful milestone in your baby's life. Hopefully, you now find yourself settling in and relaxing for a good nights sleep. Now comes the real fun stuff :)

My daughter is almost 10 months. Her cousin turned 1 yesterday. I bought her an outfit & floating bath toys. For what my daughter enjoyed most at the birthday party -- banging together plastic cups and playing with the plastic spoons. The cliche is true -- they prefer the box the gift came in to the gift itself. My girl basically likes anything she can stack or fit together. Household items or Fisher Price - either way.

PUPPETS. Puppets are so much fun for interaction with your little one. Sherry at ____@____.com hand makes a variety of animal puppets among other baby needs. She does an excellent job. You could write her for information.

Hi, My dd is now 5 but I have a list of what she got on her 1st bday and I remember her favorites...besides the stacking cups that were already mentioned, she got a Fisher Price Little People Cinderella set, with the carriage with horse and some figures--and she absolutely LOVED that. The Leap Frog ABC caterpillar has been a favorite of visiting children; my dd liked dancing to its music but otherwise didn't really play with it, so I guess it depends on the child.
She also got balls (larger ones) and books, which I highly recommend--they are a favorite for a long time. Bath books and touchy feely type books are great. It probably goes without saying, but at this age they should not be watching any tv or videos (even educational stuff--it messes with their brain and is actually bad for them until age 2). Music is great, though--Raffi, Veggie Tales, Taj Mahal, Baby Einstein (she liked the Baby Vivaldi a lot) etc. I took her to Kindermusik classes and I highly recommend them for overall fun as well as age appropriate stimulation--you could ask for the tuition for a gift (it's about $56 for 8 weeks I think).
Things she got at 18 months (Christmas) that were favorites were Duplos, calculator/phone/beeper (toy versions), a little plastic chair/stool and table, puzzles, and dolls and a little kitchen (all STILL played with today).
I personally prefer non-electronic toys and things that are classics, they seem to go further and last longer--but some electronic things certainly add to the fun.
She typically loved pulling my tupperware out of my cabinet (I left one without the safety latch for stuff that she could play with, and she never bothered the latched ones) or put things in and out of boxes/purses/bags (like unloading the dryer in to the basket or pulling little things like old credit cards or keys out of my purse), and chewing on crinkly paper or cloth. So any "gift" that was along those lines was a hit...like a shape sorter for example.
At the party itself she had her first ear infection so she wasn't feeling too well but she really enjoyed the coconut pudding and sour cream & onion potato chips (go figure!).
Hope that helps, it's getting more fun isn't it!?
Lynn

Someone else posted the same question a couple weeks ago. Well, my daughter is 16 months. The toys she liked best for her birthday...I had my parents get her a sandbox, one of those turtle ones, they're only like $30-40. Then someone can get her sand toys. She now loves her baby stroller and dolly I had someone get her. Anything she can push she likes now. she has a kitchen set and shopping cart w/the kitchen utensils and plastic foods she likes. She loves books and anything you can put stuff in and take it out. She has a little toy piano she likes and you know, fall cloths are a good idea. I would get 18 months depending on her size. I had my inlaws get her a toy box...(cause we needed on for all the toys). Those were her favorite things. Hope that helped!

My son is 19 months and some of his favorite things are: anything Elmo or Pooh, but he loves his Baby Elmo; push toys like a stroller; ride-on toys(he just started enjoying them more in the last month or so); balls, phones(of course he uses the remote or calculator like a phone too-- "Hewwo!"), cars, animals, etc. Plus he likes to do anything that I'm doing. For example, if I'm vacuuming he gets his toy vacuum and gets right in the middle of where I'm sweeping. :} Enjoy that first birthday-- it's a lot of fun!

My son is really into toy vacuums, lawn mowers and brooms. He loves things that are big and he can push or carry around. He has never really been into the little toys he has to sit around and play. He wants to be on the go. We also got him a wagon, which he loves and a cozy coupe. He loves both of those. Hes mr. independent. T.

My son just turned 1 in June and he received a ride-on toy and a turtle sand box - loves them both! He also loves books that make noise or have little flaps to open.

We got my daughter a play kitchen and play food (I think the wooden food is best. Some of the plastic food is small and a choking hazard.) She plays with her kitchen and food every day.

When my daughter turned 1, I bought her the Leapstart Learning Table by Leapfrog. It's educational but it doesn't over due it. She's now 4, and although she's memorized everything, she still plays with it! It's around $40 but well worth it! Hope this helps.
