Looking for a Church... - Belmont,NC

Hi. I live in Belmont NC and I really want to find a church somewhere nearby that I can feel at home, if that makes sense. I've never really been committed to going, although I have a very strong faith. I was raised Catholic, but didn't feel very comfortable and began going to a baptist church that I liked, but the members were all much older and I didn't get the connection that I really desire. I would like to find a church that is diverse, with members of all ages and lots of opportunities to learn and interact. I'm willing to go anywhere in Gaston county or on this side of Charlotte.

What can I do next?

Hey M. I have only been here a year so I'm not real sure how far away Belmont is,but I love my church and think you might too. Itis non-dnominational. My pastor is wonderful. I have been going there since Feb. and I promise you every time he speaks I feel like he has been watching me or is in my head becase his sermon hits right on what I'm dealing with. I truly know he has a great relationship with God. He even created his own character for children so maybe your son would like that. He has CD's and activity books. The curch is called New Life Fellowship if you are on 77N you take the LaSalle(SP?) exit turn right then at the light take a right then on samuel st take a right and you run right into it. On Sun we have 2 services one at 9:30 and one at 12:30. I hope you come. Maybe you could look it up online. My pastors name is John P. Kee. I will be praying for your husband. Please don't let him keep you and especially your son from going to church.

Have you tried First Presbyterian Church? My son goes to preschool there and I know a few members and they all seem to really like the church. The pastor is also really nice and the youth group do a lot of things.

Hi, M..
First, I am praying for you about where God leads you - you are right to find a place taht can love and support you and your family because that is why God made you: to be loved by Him (through others many times)/
Secondly, a good friend of mine attends church in the Gastonia area and sent me the following info when I told her about you. Please let me know if its helpful when you have had time to check it out.
Keep following - God keep and guide you.

From my friend:
The name of my church is Bethlehem Baptist Church...but we really function more like a non-denominational church than a traditional southern baptist church. I would definitely recommend it if someone is looking for a church with contemporary music, relaxed dress code, big emphasis on children's ministry, community outreach, and small group studies. Right now, we are located off of New Hope Road at the I-85 interchange (exit 20) just past the BoJangles on the northwest corner of the New Hope/I-85 interchange. We sold most of our land there and CarMax is currently building all around us, but we are still having Sunday service in our Family Life Center at 8:00, 9:30, and 11:00. Over the next year to year and a half, we'll be building a new campus on our S New Hope Road property (about 5 miles south of where we're at now.)

Both locations, where we're at now and where we'll be moving, are easy commutes from Belmont.

Morningstar Ministries is GREAT in Ft. Mill SC right near Carowinds, do an internet search for Morningstar Ministries, you'll see their website, very high energy, very casual, more about praising God than a certain religion. Very large but fun for new people! You can come with me sometime if you want! I have two kids. I live in CLT but my daughter goes to Gaston Christian

HI M., I live in SW Charlotte and just love my church. It sounds exactly like what you are looking for. I have been going on and off for about 10 years, but in the last year started attending regularly. I actually joined just last week. It has a wonderful youth group that I am sure you son would love, a lot of small group classes, and 3 services on Sunday. I will send you a link to their website. Wow, I saw another response that recommended Good Shepherd United Methodist on Moss Road in Southwest Charlotte. You could take 485 and be there in no time. It's a great mixture of people and not too formal. There are three services on Sunday. It is a large church so you may not feel like you get that one on one attention but it's also great if you don't want to be singled out. There are many small groups to choose from if you want more interaction.

Hi, I'm new to the Charlotte Area too. I attended the most friendly church last Sunday! It's called Assurance United Methodist Church. The services were a mix of tradional style worship (sermon, hymns) and contemporary (slide show, pantomine to the choirs' anthem). The Paster was warm, engaging, and eveyone there was soooo nice to me and my kids. I have 3 kids and a husband. He won't go to church so it's always important to me to find a place that is easy for me to bring the Munchkins w/o too many logistical problems. THey greeted me, showed me where to take my kids and seems genuinely please that I was there. Good luck in your search, blessing, N.
