This is the life jacket we use for our son...he is 3 1/2 now and we have been using for some time now(I think we started using it when he was 1 1/2). He loves it and he feels so safe in it. It is cost guard approved. It comes in different sizes. The one I have is x-small for user weight 30-50 pounds. I am not sure if it can be used for your son. It has a strap that goes between the legs so the vest does not ride up. I found mine at American sales in Bridgeview but I am sure you can call around.

good luck

we bought these for our daughters, many of the kids life jackets chaffed their underarms or choked up on them while in the water. We love these. There are two kinds one coast guard cert. another just for pool use, we have both. My dd was 3 1/2 last summer and I used the arm things with the pool suit, other wise a small wave would come and her face would go in. The year before anytime we were on the pool deck she had to have it on, in case she fell in, plus gave us the opp to talk about water saftey almost everyday:) I bought the boy ones since they have the small shorts for more sun protection plus I didn't want to be pulled over since you don't see too many pink c.g cert ones lol We saw lots of them out on the water last year though, I guess they are becoming more well known.

My children have always been safe and comfortable in the lifejackets made by Stearns. You can get these at West Marine, Target, and numerous other stores. There are other comparable ones out there, just be sure the Coast Guard safety approval rating is on there. For this age, the Type II Infant PFD (Personal Flotation Device) would probably be best since it is made with the extended back collar to protect the baby's face, etc. Lifejackets are noted by weight and sometimes by chest length as well.

I just bought a US Coast Guard certified life jacket for my 2 year old (as of 5/24) from Sam's Club. Love it. $19.95. It is almost like the inside is that gel substance. Not the hard foam or whatever the usual orange life vests are made of. Good luck.
