Graceview Baptist has a great program for special needs kids. It is located on 249 past Spring-Cypress. www.graceview.org
We are baptist. We have been attending a church but it's not a good fit for us because there are no other families there with young kids let alone with special needs kids. I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a church that had a really good children's program and a family friendly enviroment? We live close to Veteran's Memorial area and would ideally like something nearby with current Gas price chaos :)
Thanks for all the ideas :) We will probably be church visiting over the next few weeks to see which fits us best.

We have recently started going to First Baptist. It is a little overwhelming at first but once you get into a Sunday school class you start meeting people that fit where you are in life. Married, with kids, older kids or younger kids. They have something for everyone and the size stops seeming to be overwhelming and becomes a benefit. Good luck.
There is a Baptist church on the Tomball Parkway about 5-10 miles past Willowbrook Mall called Graceview Baptist Church. They have a wonderful program for special needs adults and children, too, I think. My son has attended some of their activities. (He's 26, autistic and mentally retarded.) I know this isn't really close to Veterans Memorial, but with the beltway so close, you could make it to church in less than 15 minutes.
I HIGHLY recommend Champion Forest Baptist Church. They are on Stuebner Airline and Cypresswood (almost).
They have a wonderful children's ministry and have several children that are "challenged" that they provide care for during the worship services.
Spring Baptist Church is wonderful. It is big but it has a fabulous family atmosphere. It is located on Spring Cypress Rd. Right before you get to Old Town Spring. www.springbaptist.org
Well I think Lakewood Church is really awesome. It has really good services for kids. And also Lakewood Church has lots of adult classes to chose from. I have been a Baptist my whole life until I fouund Lakewood Church. It's awesome.
Champion Forest Baptist has a great children's program, and a special needs SS class.
I'm familiar with almost all these churches and they are great choices. A very family oriented church we just started visiting is called Grace Family Baptist Church. It's quite different from any church we've been to - very fundamental, but not charismatic, etc. Go to http://www.gracefamilybaptist.net/GFBC_/Home.html for info. Ignore the 'install quick time active x control and click on 'Enter'. Just visit one Sunday - it's an experience that difficult to describe on a blog.
Hello M. O,
I'm a member of Champions Covenant Church, located off of Bammel North Houston, next to Klein Forest HS. They have a good children's program. I have a 5yr old special needs granddaughter that is in the children's area and the kids in her class love. I worried about how she was going to fit in with the other children but it worked out.
Hello! Well, you didn't mention what church you go/went to but have you been to Champion Forest Baptist? It's at Stuebner Airline, North of 1960 a little ways... can't think of the cross street. It's a really big church. My husband and I have been going there for about 3 years. It seemed very overwhelming until we got involved in a Sunday school class. We love it there! They have classes to fit just about everyone and a great children's department. I'm not sure about special needs children but it would be worth looking into. Great people there and a wonderful pastor!
Hi I have 3 Special Needs kids myself. I go to Woodsedge Community Church (excellent Special Needs program called Special Hearts contact Heather Blackburn) off of Woodlands Parkway and Panther Creek. The Woodlands United Methodist Church on Lake Woodlands Dr. and Gosling? also has a Special Needs program (contact Debbie Glass or Lisa Thompson). There is a church in Tomball off of 249 that might work for you as well. It is called Grace View Baptist. They have a Special Needs program there as well. Contact Denise Briley or Michelle Guppy at GraceView and either one could tell you more. I hope this helps. God Bless. R.
Second Baptist Church Cypress meets @ the Berry Center every Sunday @ 10 (www.second.org). They have lots of activities for children and GREAT Bible Studies for young adults and young parents.
I grew up in a wonderful church called Grace Community Church. It is located just North of I-10 on Campbell Rd. The address is 1021 Campblell Rd., the website is www.gracehouston.org and the phone number is ###-###-####. It is a Bible church but has people from several different denominations such as Baptist, Methodist, etc. The Pastor's name is Rick Minett and to me he is just one of the best Bible teachers I have ever had the priviledge to sit under. A big reason I am telling you about this church is that the children's ministry is so great. My sister has Rhett syndrome ,don't know if you are familiar with that, but she is in a wheelchair and has special needs. She grew up in that church and was welcomed from day one. She always had a role in the Christmas pageant, always made crafts etc. even though in age she was a grown woman! The Children's director is Marla Williams and she is also a teacher although she is full time with the church now. She is just such a blessing, she teaches the kids, puts on the best VBS I have ever seen, goes to volunteer at M.D. Anderson etc. Just a truly loving woman and a genuine servant of God.
Anyway, I don't go there anymore because I am married and changed to my husband's church, now my church, and I just love it. I am mainly suggesting you try this church out because I don't think it is too far from you and because of the children's ministry there, it is just so good. Plus I know if you are Baptist you will love the missions ministry at this church. It is a huge emphasis for them, they actually faithfully supported me on the mission field for about 4 years.
So take care and best wishes on your church hunt. I know you will find just the right fit for you! God bless you :)
I have also heard great things about Graceview Baptist Church on 249. Depending on where you live, I think you should check it out.
Blessings In Christ,
