I am looking for a good pre-school in the Fort Wayne, IN area. My daughter just turned 4 and I want to sign her up for pre-school in the fall. I just don't know where to start. I would love advice from mothers with children in pre-school. I don't know if there are good one's and bad one's? Are they every day, or only a few days a week? And what is the cost? If anybody could tell me what to expect, what places are really good, and how affordable they are, I would appreciate it so much.

What can I do next?

Hello K.. I'm not sure what side of town you are on, but I'm on the Northeast side and my daughter attends Good Shepherd Preschool on Vance Ave. It's right across from Snider High School. She really enjoys it there. We have her going 2 days a week for $67/month, but I believe it's going up to $70/month this next school year in the fall, and there will also be a registration fee of about $50. And you pay the tuition the first of every month, but as long as you have it in by the 7th it's okay. I don't exactly remember the amount it is for more than 2 days a week, but you can pick Tue. Thur. classes morning or afternoon, or Mon. Wed. and Friday classes also morning or afternoon. And of course the Mon. Wed. and Friday classes would be a little bit more. But I think it's a great preschool. All you would have to do is call there and say that you would like to do a walk through, then they will set it up and so you can go then to see if you would like the school and everything. They also have it where you can go inside to drop your child off and pick them up or you can go through the car line, to where they will give you a number for your child, and you just put the number in your window then when you pick your child up. I enjoy going inside myself, it has helped me to get to know other mom's there. So I hope I helped answer some of your questions. Oh, forgot to say that my daughter's classes are from 12:30-3:00. I believe morning classes are from 8:30-11:00. And if you are interested, the number is: ###-###-####. Good luck, A.

My daughter is four and has been going to Faith United Church of Christ Pre-School off of Dupont, behind the Kroger, for two years and the people have been very nice. At age 3 she started being able to write her name and she just loves going. I can really see the difference in what she is learning. If interested, the # is ###-###-####. Sign up is going on now, so I would try to call as soon as you can. This year we are paying $85/month. I don't know if it will staay the same. My daughter goes M/W/F from 9-11:15 and there is also a music class available, Mondays from 11:15-12. The cost for that is $50/Session (which is a few months).

Hey! I LOVE my daughter's preschool! It's on Aboite Ctr. Road, Peace United Church of Christ Nursery School. They have a very creative curriculum and the teachers are great! One thing I recommend is looking into the curriculums of different schools you are considering. A friend of mine has a degree in early childhood development and strongly encourages preschool settings to be more centered around creativity, rather than academics. These curriculums are still teaching the same things as other preschools, but do it in a more creative way such as through songs or hands on things. My friend said that some preschools she's looked into actually have a classroom type setting, like worksheets and stuff. It's recommended that preschoolers are in a creative environment at that age, but it's totally up to the parent. I chose Peace because I know that my friend is very thorough when it comes to researching where she places her children. She actually went and observed about 5 different preschools before choosing Peace. That was enough proof to me that it is a wonderful school! It is a little more expensive than other ones mentioned, but worth every penny. I pay $115 for Mon, Wed, and Friday from 9-11:30. ###-###-#### is their phone number. They have 2 day, 3 day, and 5 day programs. They also have different times, mornings or afternoons. It's for ages 2-5. You should definitely check it out!!

Hello~
My daughter is also four and started preschool in the fall at "Pine Hill Country Day School". I had heard great things about it and when the time came we checked it out. Here is some basic information about it:
-it is located near Parkview Hospital
-small setting...lots of Montessori ideas and philosophy
-the director does tours just about every Sunday afternoon
-we pay $225 a month for two full days a week
-the teachers seem to love their work

Probably the best thing about this school is how flexible they are in terms of scheduling. We didn't need every day, and found that many preschools were every day half or full days. Pine Hill allows you to choose your schedule...with the minimum being three half-days. But you can choose any combination of half and full days...whatever days you want...morning or afternoon.

If you would like more information you can call: Elaine Dodds at ###-###-####

Best of luck to you~
