My youngest had a bad reaction to a sunscreen I used on her yesterday and I was wondering if anyone knew of a good sunscreen for sensitive skin. This is the first time I have ever really slathered her up. She is just 2 and since we have a clothing optional home I knew she wouldn't wear a shirt outside. Her entire back broke out and she had some red, raised hive like patches. My children are dark complected and the oldest two tan gorgeous. I need something with a high spf because for one, my sister let the older two bake (no protection) last summer at the pool and they got enough sun damage to last a lifetime and also, we are headed to Florida this summer and I really need to protect them all. Thanks so much for your help.

Have you tried Baby Lizard sunscreen? My son has very sensitive skin (excema) and it works great with him. I got it at CVS.
My daughter is EXTREMELY allergic to sunscreens, even ones marked 'hypoallergenic.' She unfortunately pulled from my gene pool and got my sensitivities. Anyways, rather than rushing her to the hospital in anafalactic shock every time we try a new sun screen we went with our doctor's recommendation and we haven't had a problem since. We use Water Babies 45 sunscreen. The pediatrician said it is the most widely tested and has the lowest consumer complaints. We've been using it for 8 years now and she's never had a reaction. Due to my daughter's sensitivities she can't come in contact with others wearing other sunscreens so anyone in contact with her has to wear Water Babies. Her school has even sent out notices and started providing this sunscreen so that we can avoid taking her to the hospital. Her old daycare did the same. With all of those children using Water Babies, I have never been told of any of them having an adverse reaction so I'm guessing the Doc's recommendation was true. We'll be Water Babies users for life due to her allergy, but if it works for her I'm fairly certain it would work great for your child too.
Just remember, sun screen does expire! It will usually last one to two years and then start breaking down. Usually it simply looses its effectiveness but in highly sensative persons it sometimes kicks off a reaction too. (We had this happen a few years back) So, we simply replace the sun screen each year to and now avoid the problem.
Good luck, I hope you find a sunscreen that works for your child! :)
Here are a few you can look into...Hope it helps.

http://store.bareescentuals.com/on/demandware.store/Sites... ...I know this sounds weird because you think of makeup but the mineral veil is actually really good for the skin and its clear and light on the skin. No one will no you have it on so can use on a boy. It is kind of expensive but if helps your child then somethings are worth it. It is especially wonderful for people that have alot of skin problems and very sensitive skin there aren't the chemicals in it like a normal sunscreen.
My daughter suffered the same issues. We started using the sunscreen from Melaleuca and it works great! If you are interested please let me know and I can get you the information. It is also environmentally friendly!!!!
The Aveeno baby sunscreen is great. SPF 45.
My son has super sensitive skin. So we had some issues with sunscreen last summer. I did some research and found that California Baby has some really great hypo allergenic sunscreen. It is a little on the pricey side but i have found that most things for sensitive skin are pricey. (less for more?). I ordered it from Drugstore. com but i have also seen it at World of Natural Food. I do think that it was cheaper online. We used the lotion and i bought the face stick and keep it my purse for trips to the park, etc. Good Luck.
My son has sensitive skin to sunscreen. Make sure the sunscreen is PABA-free and at least 30 SPF. We have found that we can't let sunscreen sit around. We have to buy new sunscreen every month whether it's empty or not or else he gets a bad reaction. The worst is Hawaiian Tropic on my son. We work our way through each PABA-free sunscreen there is. The doctor suggest Nutrageina (sp?) Sunscreen because it's known for being more sensitive. I would love to not be fair skin! I was outside for an hour yesterday, 90% of the time I was in the shade watching my son play, and I still ended up burnt!!! I am so grateful my son is not as fair complected, but we have been using sunscreens on him since he was an infant. Best wishes!
I love Earth's Best Sunblock. It is Organic Fragrence free Hypo-Allergenic, and paraban free! I have found it everywhere from claudias health food market to Babies r us. It is slightly more expensive than other lotions but it is thicker and you use less so it all works out! My son has several surgical scars that are sensitive and he has never had a reaction to this product!
I sent you a PM but just thought I would say yes Arbonne.. 17yrs I have been using their products! I have never used better!!!
I am a rep because I found myself telling everyone about them anyhow!!

I use the baby Arbonne on my son and it works great! It is spf 30 and hypo-allergenic, it is botanically based so there aren't harsh chemicals that would irritate the skin. I am a consultant if you would like to order or If you want to send me your address I can get you a sample to try before you buy. A full size bottle is $22. My email is ____@____.com
My son and I are very sensitive to all kinds of chemical additives, but after a long search we found we can both use the Neutragena line of sunscreens. Good luck!
My daughter broke out from sunscreen too. But I found Banana Boat for babies that is tear free and hypoallergenic works good on her.
Good luck!

hi, my name is C.. i have a total of 5 kids, most of whom are adults now, but do still have a 7 yr old at home, and have babysat for 27 years.
just wondering. did you by chanve use "waterbabies" sunscreen on your little one?? several years ago, my youngest, and also a little girl i use to babysit for, broke out in hives/rash after using waterbabies. i had never had this problem before. i just wanted to tell you, that this was the ONLY brand the kids had a reaction to. any, and all other brands they were fine with. never figured out why the problem was only with the "waterbabies' brand, but thank goodness it was the only one. good luck, and have a great trip to florida!

Isn't it funny how each child reacts differently to things? Both my kids are fair, but still have issues individual to themselves. In my search for pure personal care products, my search continues to bring me to a brand called Shaklee. They have never had a product recall or used even one ingredient in Consumer Report's "Dirty Dozen" list of undesireable ingredients. Anyway, because of the good results my family had from them, I now distribute them. You can find sunscreen at

Hope you find what your little one needs.

A GREAT one is Arbonne. My sister in law sells it and I am pretty sure no one else around this area does, but I do know if you google Arbonne you can go to their site and order it! @ of my 3 kids have VERY sensitive skin and it is awesome!
Hi C.,
My little ones are all fair skin with blonde hair and burn like their daddy in the summer. Ive always used Baby Magic Sunblock spf50. Its made by Banana Boat. Its waterproof.
This stuff is super thick and will stay on their skin ALL DAY.
We have to scrub in the bathtub at night. But they have never had a reaction and never had a sunburn! Its PABA free and is made for children with sensitive skin. It says on the bottle that "its as mild as water"... whether that will be true for you little girl... I hope so... but it works great with mine!
Good Luck!
I love Baby Blanket. You can get it at Babies R Us. My son is 2 now and has always had very sensitive skin. He has never had any reaction to this one.
