Looking for a Local Church

I am looking for a local church that is very diverse(not all white or black or whatever). I was raised Methodist but it doesn't have to be a Methodist Church. I just ask that it not be Catholic. I have been reading the Bible on my own now for awhile but I am not where I want to be. I think I need to be around more people who are looking in the same direction as me, for support, advice and prayer. I have 5 month old twins and a very complicated personal life, which is part of my problem. I am with the father of my twins, we have been together for about 3 years, however I am married to someone else that I've been separated from for about 4 years. We have not divorced because we're not sure that is what's best. Any advice or recommendations(on a church or otherwise) would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I don't know where you live geographically, but I appreciate the fact that you want a church to connect with and a body of believers that can help you find God's will for your life. I don't know what your situation is in the marriage, but you have children with someone else. What does your husband think? Find a church that will preach the gospel, from the Bible. What God tells you to do may not be what you want to hear, but talk to your husband and father of your children and read what the Bible says about marriage and commitment, and pray for guidance. Find a Bible believing church, not necessarily one that says what you want to hear.
I go to a Wellington Presbyterian Church in Wellington, (Presbyterian Church of America denomination). There is also a PCA church in Lake Worth, Lake Osborne Presbyterian. These churches will love you and listen to your questions and help you seek God's guidance. Sometimes the answer is a difficult thing to do, but the right thing.

Hi L., I think that it is awesome that you are looking for a church family to call your own. When I first moved to Palm Beach about a year and a half ago I too was searching for a church, we found Calvary Chapel of the Palm Beaches last January in 2007. We have felt so at home since the very first day we came to visit. It is an awesome church, nondenominational, and teaches directly from the bible. It is also very diverse with many people from all backgrounds. There are many different groups and activities that meet weekly and monthly. There are also a lot of young families with young children, I have 3 kids aged 6, 2 1/2, 16 months and all of my friends have small children too. We are located in Lake Worth. If you would like to come visit, please contact me and I will give you the directions and introduce you to lots of great people. Email me: ____@____.com advice about the marriage issue: if you seek God earnestly and really pray about this, read your bible and just cry out to him...he will direct your path, he will let you know what you need to do. "If my people who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

Everyone is going to have their own opinion on what "they think" you should do, but the bottom line is - what does God want you to do? What does the bible tell you to do? Seek advice from Godly counsel and elders or pastors at a church...they will be able to help you and lead you in the right direction. God Bless you and your babies :)

I think you will feel more at peace if you break the bonds of marriage with your current spouse and marry the father of your twins. You have moved on to start a family with another man and it is not fair to your twins or to their father to not be wholly committed to them. This will be a new beginning.

Why do you stay married to him--because you are afraid your new relationship might not work out, or because you feel divorce is wrong? Even the Catholic church has taken a more modern view of divorce, and does not turn away divorced persons from the fold. I believe you will feel less conflicted and able to move on. Divorce does not need to be the end of talking to your ex or of having feelings for him, and a no-fault divorce will not involve blame or financial obligations, and I do not believe that God will condemn you. Before you take this step, talk to the pastor of a church you are considering joining to ascertain that you will not be judged but will be welcome to the church.
