I have a canon Powershot SD450 that my husband needs for work now. I really never liked it because I would loose my daughter's pose before it would capture the photo. Anyone have any suggestion on a digital camera that can capture a 2 year old in motion? Help!

Thanks so much.

That happened with my old digital camera. I tend to take lots of pics while going down the road either on a motorcycle or by car. By the time the shutter snapped I was too far down the road to get the pic I wanted.

I got a new Nikon Coolpix S60 right before Christmas to take to Japan for holiday. It takes the pic as soon as you push the button. It's awesome!!!! I just got my pics printed and you can tell by the date/time stamp that I took up to 10 pics in a one minute time frame!! AND that is adjusting the zoom in between. It's an awesome camera. Has a zoom that is like a 165 zoom on a 35mm camera. Also has the largest view screen on the market. Lens don't protrude from the camera, can write on the pic w/stylus that comes with it. Pricy but I feel is soooo worth it.

I have been through several camera's over the last 7 years. I did some research online epinion's, znet are a couple of the web sites that I have looked at for feed back on different items. Also if you go to best buy, they have customer feedback on items. I just received for Christmas the Canon power shot SX110 IS, with 9.0 mega pixel and 10x optical zoom. I have a 7 year old son and an 18 month old grand daughter. This camera has a kids and pets function that works great. I also took it on a field trip with my son's class and it has taken the best pictures by far of any of the other camera's. I found it on amazon.com for just over $200.00. It has a flip up flash that if you don't want to use, just flip it down very simple. It also has a great auto function. Easy to use for the simple shots, plus features with a little reading to take some great pictures.
Do your research and get the camera that works for you.
I just wanted to share my experience. Other camera's I have had were HP, Olympus, and Nikon. So far the Canon does what I want it to do. Takes the pictures before my subject runs off...LOL If you want to see some pictures, email me and I will send some that I just took Sunday of my Grand daughter. It also takes video, which sometimes comes in handy when you don't have your video camera.
Hope this helps.

I agree with Kim...SLR is the way to go! I have a Canon S5IS, which is a little cheaper than the rebel (around $350.) and it is the best investment I have made since my kids were born! Even without the telephoto lens it has a great zoom and action pictures never delay or blur. I went through 6 cameras in 2 yrs. before I found this one and I absolutely love it! If you're going to buy a new camera, I recommend spending the extra money on a good one. You'll be happy you did.

Hey R.,

I am not so sure about your 450 but I think all Canons are equipped with settings for kids. My 550 is a dream and I really wish I would have bought 2 when I got it, as well they no longer make it. But Canons are really great cameras. As for capturing a 2 yr old.... there is a setting regarding multiple shots and the delay. And also a setting for kids and pets.... If on the kids and pets setting as they obiously move then you would want to set it for multiple shots. I did this forever with my little one when she wouldn't stay still for pics. You have to select the single shot or multiple shot everytime you turn the camera on...but not once you are using it. It is easy though. And once you click for a picture it takes 10 back to back shots.... I can not tell you how many cute pics you can get that way. Then just delete all the poor quality ones. You may want to go over you manual and see if someone can help you adjust the settings. Or look for a canon model that has these features. the only thing about my canon i have been frustrated with is when the battery is low and flashing low on the screen... the delay in snapping pics is a little longer. But then i just carry a charged battery with me.
best of luck

I absolutely love my Kodak Z650, even after two and a half years. There are many Kodak models out there, but the Z-series seem to be highly loved by many, especially moms and grandparents with young children. They take high-quality pictures, allow for quick shots, and many now have stabilizers that help keep those quick-snaps from being blurry from movement. Hope that helps!

If you want a camera that won't have a delay from the time you press the button until the actual shot, you will probably need to get a digital SLR. They are bigger, but mine makes GREAT pictures and it is 4 years old - only 6 megapixels. I have a Canon digital rebel and I LOVE it. I have the regular lens that it comes with plus a telephoto (great for taking picyutures of soccer, water skiing - any sports event where you can't get really close. My rebel (and all SLR's I think) has an action setting that is great at freezing any action. It will freeze water droplets in the air if you take pics of your kids in the sprinkler. They are expensive, but worth it!

Hi R.,
I don't have much experience with cameras, but I did email my niece and ask for her opinion. Photography is one of her hobbies. Her comment follows:

Hey R. V,

I have a Canon S2 IS and I love it!! It has an Auto setting for just point and shoot but when/if you decide you want to get more complex, it has the settings to do that as well. I have been extremely happy w/ this camera and I have a 3 yr old and a 1 yr old...I have no problem capturing poses (like they stay still long enough to call it a pose). Anyhow, hope this helps! Happy hunting!!

As a photographer, I have several cameras. By several, I mean like 10 different ones as I just always feel I need the newest thing out. So far the best camera for catching those quick poses and easy to use is the sony cybershot. I have the 10 Megapixel but you will honestly not need that high resolution unless you plan on printing really big prints. (which most people do not.) a 6 megapixel on up works great for kid shots. Also, I prefer the one with the slide down to turn on versus the press the power button as this makes it much faster to come on and snap that perfect shot. It fits easily in your back pocket or purse and has a touch screen. Anyone that has used my camera like this LOVES it and ends up buying the same one. This advice is from lots of experience and using lots of different types of cameras. Good luck and let us know what you end up getting.

Hi! I have a Canon Digital Rebel xti 10.1 megapixel that has an extremely fast shutter speed. I am able to get get most pictures of my 2 year old before he has a chance to move! It is the absolute best camera I have ever used. I have 2 Canon's. They have a new digital that has more megapixels, but it is around $1000. The one I have is around $500. However, you can get it a lot cheaper on eBay now and it comes in bundled packages with lots of extra's! Hope this helped!

I have a couple of digital Rebels (lol, yes two - I take pictures of animals at the all-breed animal rescue I'm with and always have the camera they were donated with me too!), and I just wanted to add that I also absolutely love them also. There is no delay, they take wonderful pictures, and they are user friendly. They also cost an arm and a leg, which is why it took me four years to be able to get the one that actually belongs to me, but in my opinion, the memories are worth it!
Also, you aren't spending a fortune in batteries as the battery is rechargable. You can get very inexpensive chargers and batteries on ebay.

I have a Nikon D80 and LOVE IT!!! I have a five year old and a 20 month old. I purchased it in a package off ebay. Great Deal for all the stuff that I got. I do wish that I had a 18-200mm lens. Which I will get eventually. I looked for months for a camera and finally decided on the D80. I hear that the D60 is just a good. The lens that I mentioned is supposed to be a great all around lens..for closeups and far away. Best of luck to you....I think my camera is well worth the money. If you are interested in the ebay store that I bought it from let me know. I did research on several ones. Hope this helps.
