Looking for a New Church Home

My husband and I have had to leave our church because of some inpropriety on a leadership members part. I was saved in a non-denominational Christian Church and I joined my husband's Baptist church when we got married. We are looking for a small/medium sized church (demonimation not important, but must be Christian) and we are hoping for someplace racially diverse. My husband and my step daughter are African-American, I am White which means our daughter together is mixed. We are prayerful people and know that God will lead us somewhere, maybe with your help.

What can I do next?

I know you will probably get a ton of responses to this request because this is a really religious town. But,I have to say, it's very very hard to find a racially diverse church. Everyone seems to have their own little clique full of people just like them. Our next door neighbors just left a Presbyterian church that was diverse simply because they fundamentally disagreed with the pastor on some major issues. Now they're having a hard time finding a church with the same dynamics. Really quick, I'll invite you to our church down in Hoover because we love it, and it is very multicultural. Everyone is included, accepted, and encouraged to participate. It is a traditional Christian, Biblical beliefs, church, traditional style worship (not high church though) with alot of variety because several different people share leadership so there are many different styles represented.
I'm in charge of the children's department from 0-4 years old and we do programs for the children that are targed at teaching them about Jesus and developing a relationship with Him. We meet on the 7th day of the week, which is Saturday, and we would LOVE to have you visit. I think you would feel at home, and I know your children would really enjoy the programming that we have for them. My name is K., so ask for me when you come! I'd love to show you around. God bless in your search! I know He will lead you to the right place for your family!

We are in the Moody/Leeds area and absolutely love our church as well. They have really good children's programs for the kids. It's a Southern Baptist denomination.

Bethel Baptist Church. Located on Hwy 411 between Moody and Odenville.

I am a member of Valleydale Church and have been for 10 years. The church is large, but you can overcome the size by becoming involved in one or more of the smaller groups, like Life Connection (what I grew up calling Sunday school). The great thing about being large, is all the options and resources!!

I love Pastor Calvin's teaching. There has never been a service that I faded out or did not learn something. He keeps me interested and teaches me something new each time.

There are people of all races at our church. I have never heard or experienced or felt any negative interactions at our church regarding race.

I teach in the preschool area during the weekly Mother's Day Out and on Sundays I help in the preschool area. My name is S. and I am will be glad to get your kids to the correct classes on Sundays so you can go to the worship service. I work at the 11 am service. The Director is there during the 9:30 service.

Good luck and I hope to meet you at our church one day soon!

Hi K., We've recently joined the Church at Shelby Crossings in Calera and love it. The church is really seeking God's vision right now as we are calling for elders and deacons right now and searching for who our worship leader will be. Its not a perfect church of perfect people (or I wouldn't be there), but we are seeking Christ and worshipping Him. Our pastor and his family are African-American and there is a mix of members races that attend. Finding a church home can be a difficult process sometimes and I pray for God's leadership for you and your family in this decision.

Hi K.,
We moved to Birmingham in December and we found a Church we love. I grew up nondenominational also and my husband grew up Catholic. We go to Church of the Highlands. It is quite large but right now they have three locations and we go to the one in Greystone which is smaller. In June or July they will be all meeting in a new building. Even though it is large they really stress small groups which have really helped us. I belong to two playgroups and they are wonderful. They have a website www.churchofthehighlands.com. You might just check it out. I really like it because it is open to everyone and their main goal is the great commision - getting the word of God out to people to save them. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. I also understand if Church of the Highlands is not for you and your family and hope that you find one that you all love. B.
