Looking for Activities for an 18-Month Old

I've been a stay-at-home mom ever since my daughter was born. Until now, the whole of every day was devoted to just keeping her fed, clean and safe. Now that she's 18 months, and all over the place, I'm kind of at a loss for what to do. She's very active, both mentally and physically, and I'd like to get her involved in some toddler programs where she and I could get out of the house and do some arts and crafts, or where she could have room to run, climb and play. Nothing too structured, I just want an outlet for her energy. Does anybody know of any art/sports programs that cater specifically to toddlers?

So What Happened?

Thanks to everyone who wrote! Portland Parks does indeed offer so many classes for little ones. I'm particularly excited about their "Messy Art" classes, as well as toddler tumbling and many other. Thanks again!

Hello-

I understand exactly how you feel. I have 17 month twins and a three year old that I stay at home with. If you are interested I am getting together with a few other mom's for playdates and mom's night out - just let me know

I'm not sure where you're located, but there are many parks and recreation districts who offer programs such as these. Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District has tons. Good luck!

Portland Parks and Rec has a lot of programs for toddlers--ranging from the very structured (swim lessons or gymnastics classes), to totally free play (basically an indoor playground). They also have art classes and cooking classes...though if your little one is super-active, I'd recommend the playground or gym as a fantastic way for her to burn off some of that extra energy.

Yes, ditto to what was said above. We just moved to Portland but I am amazed at the amount of activities offered at the Community Centers that are so inexpensive. We are in SW so I only know of specifics there but if you got to the Portland Park and Recs website you can find just about everything you want to know.

My son is 19 months..and i also live in SE portland...so I understand! We go M, W, F to the Sellwood Community Center for the indoor playground. It is only a $1 to drop in, and is from 10:30-noon. They have a whole Schedule of events that are REALLY affordable! Lots of crafts, cooking activities, and much more! If you do not already know about OMSI and the Childrens Museum, they are two more options, although a little more pricey. Hope I was some help!
