Looking for advice for my soon to be 7 year old Daughters birthday. She is turning 7 the day before my due date with our son (child #2). It will be HOT here in Austin - late August. Since everything is happening at once..birthday, newborn and school starting...we decided to have the 7 year old's birthday party a month early. So early August.

She wants to have the party at our home. Any ideas for a outdoor water party?? Sprinklers? Kiddie Pool? Any game or theme ideas? Timeline? Food to serve?

I appreciate any and all advice to make this a memorable, fun fillled, try to stay cool in the heat celebration.
Thanks!

Great idea to have the party early.. We are all middle of summer birthday people.. Do be prepared for not many people to be in town. We have not been able to have over about 6 kids to our summer parties, but that has led to lots of fun for those that do attend.

The Theme could be
"Fun in the sun".

Set up as many water activities as possible.. Water sprinklers, slip n slide, Water guns are also fun. I noticed Target has a 103" pool on sale for only 14.99! For that price you could have 2 in case there are a ton of kids. Order an Ice Cream cake and you could do a hot dogs and Watermelon.

Of course I love a pinata at birthday parties.. Fill it with bandades, tattoos, hair accessories, and some candy.
or gum that will not melt.

If you just have a few friends, you could do to a movie and then go for pizza after wards.
Have a blast and congratulations on your baby!

I remember having small sleep overs at that age. Maybe have her invite 3 friends and they can camp out in sleeping bags in the living room, paint toes, eat pizza and popcorn and watch movies. It will be quite inexpensive too!

H.,
Congratulations on baby #2!
When my twin girls were born, I faced the same delima. We looked on Craigslist.com and found a company that did blow up inflatables taht had water slides in them. We kept it fairly simple and let the older twins pick their themed cakes. We planned it at a time before it got really hot but that kept the menu down to cake and ice cream.
We gave birth to our girls 10 days later...happy and healthy and without having stressed out over an elaborate birthday party. :o)
