Save your gas money and go to Galveston. We went to Corpus a few months ago, NOT IMPRESSED. Its been a long time since I've been to Galveston so I can't recommend a place to stay, but have fun!
Hy husband just told me he'd like to go on a spur-of-the-moment trip so I am jumping on this while he's interested!
We thought it would be fun to take the kids to the beach. We're looking for something easy like renting a condo on the beach for a few days in the upcoming weeks. Any advice you can offer on places to stay or things to do in Corpus or Galveston would be greatly appreciated.

There are only a couple of condo rentals on the beach-- the rest are across the street. I recommend Seascape Condominiums b/c they are right on the beach. The Rainforest Cafe' is great-- it has a volcano that erupts and sometimes has dancing, hula hooping, or other gatherings right outside. There's also a "ride" you can take them on at the Rainforest Cafe'. I also highly recommend eating at Landry's. You can see the beach from the patio dining area, and the food is great. There is also a putt-putt course. You can also take the ferry ride that links the island to the mainland. I also love to stop in Houston on the way there and go to the Galleria and the Kids' museum or Natural History Museum-- the kids love this. Have fun!!
I second the advice of HP for Galveston. We have stayed at Seascape several times and like that it is on the beach and has pool. The Galvestonion is good too. There is so much to do in Galveston - Kemah Boardwalk (restaurants and rides) and the Space Center is 30 minutes away, and on the island is Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens (your kiddos would love the aquarium).
Look on Crystal Beach on the Bouliar Penninsula. I spelled that wrong. But look up Crystal Beach, TX. You'll find homes to rent on the beach. Galveston you have to walk across the street. Nothing is right on the beach. Have fun!
