Hi Moms,

Can you recommend a Dr in the Metro area (preferably south) that can evaluate my 8 year old boy to see if he needs vision therapy and does anyone have any experience with vision problems and ADHD symptems?

What can I do next?

How weird that you asked this question, my mom and I were just talking last night and she said that my brother who has ADD said the best thing my parents did was bring him to eye therapy in Eagan. We are just in the process of having our daughter tested for ADD and my mom said to look the docter up. All I know right now is that he is in Eagan, next to Walmart. Please email me and I will try to look up more information today.

Check out;

http://www.minnesotavisiontherapy.com/

The website has all the background on the various programs, history of the center, and more. They are supposed to be the best in the upper Midwest, and will do a free evaluation. They specialize in situations where ADHD and other issues may be suspected. Interestingly, if you carefully read everything on the site, you will find that many cases such as you describe are actually misdiagnosed as ADHD, and are in actuality a sensory/perception issue.

Very good read, and lot's of food for thought. They even have a checklist on the page to help you determine if this is they type of therapy you might need.

Good luck

Dr. Chaus at Glasses Menagerie in Uptown can do it. It's expensive, though, and usually not covered by insurance.

Plan for Learning provides evaluation and programs for children with ADHD and vision problems; these can go hand in hand. Reflex integration work is highly effective for helping develop both visual system and attention. C.
