Hi S.,
My son just took swim lessons last year at the YMCA in Irving. It was about $45.00. My son loved it and he did learn. The YMCA is on Irving Blvd. and Story.
We currently live in the Las Colinas area and I would love to fins some good swim lessons for my 2.5 yr old daughter. The kind that believe 2 yr olds can swim. We are on a budget though, so my search has been difficult. Any suggestions?

I don't know how expensive this is, but the video was impactful to me. Watch them and see if you don't want to get your baby in.
Try Northlake College. I believe the offer swim lessons for children during the summer.
The Coppell YMCA is a great program. You can do a program membership, that way you only pay for the programs you use and not the exercise part.
You can also apply for assistance if needed.
Good Luck

It cost less if you live in Coppell.
You might try checking out at Northlake Junior College. They even have infant classes.

My 3 year old currently goes to Emler Swim School. We go in Arlington, but they have several locations around the metroplex. To be honest, it was a little more than I wanted to pay, but its been worth every penny. Their teachers, although young, are AMAZING!!! They use a unique combination of nurturing the kids and challenging them to live outside of their comfort zone that I could never recreate. I highly recommend them. You can check out their website at www.iswimemler.com
I would not recommend the Coppell Aquatic Center or Coppell YMCA for group lessons...my now 4 yr old started lessons when he was 3 over 9 months ago. We started in the group lessons at the Aquatic Center and the teachers are not teaching them life survival skills(basic swimming) instead they are taught different strokes, etc...while holding on to them the whole time...every child in the class was told to repeat the class mulitiple times...my child did not progress so I moved him to the YMCA. Same problem, though teachers are a little better - but the kids are never pushed to swim on their own, consequently 100% of the kids are asked to repeat the class - we swam in the Pike class for 4 months without moving up (every child according to the parents told me their child was asked to repeat the class) and I am a very vocal parent and talked to Mary (swim director) and she said they'll never push the kids, consequently they don't progress. She doesn't expect much development until a child is 6 yrs old.
I opted to get with another parent and do the semi-private class with Cody (asst. director) and within 1 month my child has moved up to the next level! Don't waste your time in group swim classes at the Coppell Y or Aquatic Center for your young child. Now for those of you with older kids over 6 the group lessons do work - I have a 10 and 12 yr old and they moved up quickly through the classes, but then again, they already knew how to swim, they were learning new strokes and better technique.

P.S. - We also went to Emler in Colleyville (very good but expensive) and my child developed mullescum, which is a skin virus. Dermatologist said it was b/c of the warm saltwater system at Emler...a perfect environment to grow and transfer the virus btwn kids...also the distance was too far to go to during rush hour traffic.
P.P.S - in my research there is also AquaKids in FlowerMound -www.aquakids.com/. Again a little far to drive & expensive like Emler, but I think it might be worth it, if you don't want to do semi-private.

I'm not sure if you've looked into Emler swim school. We swim in Arlington; however, they have other locations. www.iswimeler.com. They limit clasess to only 4 to a class. We started my 6 year old at age 3 and she can swim the length of the pool and on her back. My 2 year old started at 6 months and loves it. We keep them in year round because we chose it as one of their activites as well as equiping them for water events. I think the price is about $11-14 a class. The staff is really friendly and are great with the children. Good luck.

It is a family that teaches lessons in their backyard pool in Coppell just down Sandy Lake from Samuel. Lessons are 30 minutes, four days a week (M-TH) and last for two weeks. The match up is one instructor to two students, per session.
They taught my four year old to swim in about two weeks. At the end of their program (we stayed on for two sessions/four weeks total) he was able to jump off their diving board and swim to the edge and get safely out of the pool. They did an awesome job with him. My younger son, 2.5 years, was more of a challenge, but they got him comfortable enough in the water that he could glide around a bit on his own. Despite his hesitation, they were very patient and kind and also did a great job with him.
Highly recommend them! Their cost is $60/per two week session. Additional kids go down by $10 dollars per session.
Good luck!
