I am looking for an electric breast pump. I am due in 4 weeks and I wanted to see whether there were other options out there before I shed out the much needed 300 more dollars for the Medela Pump.
hi, I have a Medela Pump In Style. I loved it and recommended it to 2 friends who loved theirs. It only needs new tubing and I have the lady who has it or I can pick it up. It runs around $8. Please don't buy a used pump. I can appreciate the fact that a good pump does cost a ton, but there are just too many health risks with a used pump. I personally use the Ameda Purely Yours pump which is less expensive than a Medela. I bought mine online from amedababy.com. If you prefer to go with the Medela just do a search and you'll find online retailers that sell them cheaper than local retailers. You don't pay tax and most offer free shipping.
I pumped for almost a year while I worked full time and I used the Avent Isis Breast Pump. I did hours of research before I purchased it and the reviews all said it was as easy and painless as an electric pump and produced the same amount of milk and it costs much less. I loved my pump!!! It was easy to use and it never hurt. It was also very easy to transport back and forth to work and home discretely. I didn't like the Avent bottles that came with it; the nipples were too big for my daughter's mouth. I once again did hours of research and finally purchased the Playtex Drop In bottles and they fit on the pump. I got 9 ounces in the morning on one side while I nursed my baby on the other side and then while at work I got 4 ounces each side for a total of 8 ounces. I think the trick with successful pumping is to pump at the same time every day and you need stimulus. I had a picture of my baby and her blanket so I could smell her and imagine that I was nursing her. Worked every time!! If you are stressed you are going to have problems with any pump. I have been recommending this pump to all my friends and I have not heard any complaints. I just looked it up on Babiesrus.com and it only costs $59.99. Good luck!!!!
I would try ebay. Personally I bought mine there for $100 and was able to resale when I was done breastfeeding for $175.00.

I have a really nice Ameda Purely Yours professional double pump. I used one just like it (borrowed from a friend) with my first child and loved it so much I purchased one for my second. I used it for 4 months. Ameda is the only brand that only pumps through the tubing and the milk never touched the machine so there is not a possibility of milk contamination.
I have 2 sets of tubing, a full extra set of breast flanges and valves, storage cooler for milk on the go with ice packs, the 6+ Ameda bottles and I can even include the very popular Playtex storage system (I think I have 5 sets at $10.00 a set) that can NOT be purchased anymore. I was going to sell it on e-Bay but will accept $150.00 if you want it.
I have it all put away (and can't remember what I have) but can take a full inventory tonight.

I gave birth almost 2 years ago and have used the Medela electric pump. I just rented it from Las Colinas Medical Center, where I delivered my baby.
You could probably ask your hospital regarding Medela pump rental.

Check ebay first off... you can find some great deals... also, look into renting one from the hospital so you don't have to shell out all that money.
