My daughter will be starting Kindergarden next year, and I would like to get a head start on finding the right school for her. I am interested in a Kindergarden that is full day because I will be going into the Credintial program soon and I feel that children get more out of Kindergarden if they are there all day versus half a day.
I live in Fullerton and am willing to take her to Brea. My husband is a teacher in Lakewood, and would even be willing for him to take her to school in the morning and pick her up in the afternoon. So any suggestions in Fullerton, Brea, Placentia or Lakewood would be greatly appreciated.

I agree with Raquel, because of my own experience with my two now junior high age girls. If you have to put her in all day, because of work, then you have to. But if you can be with her, it is really your last chance to enjoy freedom of full parenthood (before homework, afterschool activities, etc.) I had one child go all day, of course, I missed her, but thought I was doing good thing by sending her all day. At the end of the day she was tired, hungry but generally happy. She was also that much more different that the girl I sent off, influenced by more sophisticated children, sometime tired and cranky teachers, and often just bored. No more beaches, parks and D-land right after lunch.
My younger child went 3.5 hr K program. After we'd talk about the day over lunch. She too was bored academically, but I supplemented after school. We went to many museums, kids places and made play dates. I, in a sense, kept the child I raised. As for academically, the love for learning was more evident in my half-day-er rather than the all day K-er. She's the one with more academics successes overall, and has an easier time learning new concepts. Of course, this is my own case study with many variables. But I truly think it was my influence on learning about new things that crucial that nutured.
As for Fullerton schools, we've dealt with two of their public schools, one Title 1, the other in a more affluent area.
Both had their pro's and con's and one really wasn't better than the other in the early grades. I truly think that if you're involved, make nice with the teacher and work with your child afterschool, any school can be a great program, as you will know if the coming years! Good Luck
Ok, so please don't put her in a full day kindergarten. I know that society makes us feel like kindergarten starts the rest of their school experience, but they are only 5. Having your 5 year old having to sit for long periods of time, having to be around a lot of other 5 year olds for long periods of time improves nothing about them. They did a study about kids who start in preschool versus kids who didn't, and they all were at the same point by 4th grade. 5 year olds don't need a school day that is just as long as a sixth grader, they need a taste of it, and then they need to play. Perhaps you could take some time and research what kind of day is best for a 5 year old. Good luck
As I understand it Hermosa Drive Elementary has full day kinder now. The school is on Hermosa Drive east of Harbor Blvd. I saw they were advertising it trying to draw parents there. It is a wonderful school. My son went kinder through 6th grade there.
I am a teacher in the Placentia Yorba Linda USD and the schools in our district our excellent. They have a very good reputation. I don't know if any of the elementary schools offer full day kindergarten though. I know that Wagner Elementary has a full day day care program, so they might also have full day Kindergarten. I live in Fullerton but am unfamiliar with the schools at this point. (My son is only 17 1/2 months).

I live in Fullerton, but am in the PYLUSD. There are none in public schools around here. But, I have friends in LA county that do have all day kinder. In PUBLIC school. You might try going the private route, you may have better success. I may be crazy, but, I think there might be one just north of the Brea mall-in that center where Toys r us used to be. good luck
MacArthur Elementary is a public school in Lakewood that has all day Kindergarten starting a couple months after school actually starts. It is half day Sept-Dec. then goes to full day. This is the phone number ###-###-####. I love the teachers there.
