Hi,
I am looking for some after school art activities for my two children. If they have classes for adults, I would love to take some classes also. I know winter is just around the corner and I'd like to get involved in some activites that can carry us through the loooong cold winter months! Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

What can I do next?

Hi S.,

Abrakadoodle (www.abrakadoodlemn.com) offers art classes after-school at each of the public schools in Plymouth. If your child doesn't attend public school, that's fine. They can still sign up and attend classes at any of the schools. At Abrakadoodle they teach the children about a new artist, either master or contemporary, at each class and introduce the kids to a wide range of art materials from watercolor to sculpture, painting, photography and more. You can download their class schedule at www.abrakadoodlemn.com or go directly to Plymouth's Community Ed page to register at http://www.wayzata.k12.mn.us/ces/.

Hope that helps!

There is a new art studio in Plymouth on Vicksburg Lane called My Paint Buddies. I just signed up for classes for two of my children and for myself. For me it is a lot more convenient than the Minnetonka Art Center in Orono (that is kind of a hike). I like it because the classes are ongoing throughout the year and you just renew each month if you want to continue. You don't have to sift through a catalog each semester for new classes. I really like their philosophy of building friendships as well as art skills. They also have very reasonably priced birthday parties - which I plan to do for my kids in the spring. They are just starting up now and will be adding a lot of programs as they grow. They are going to have art therapy for children and adults with Downs Syndrome. Anyway, I really liked the owner when I met her. She is extremely talented, great with kids (has two of her own) and lives closeby in Wayzata. You can look at their website at www.mypaintbuddies.com or call them at ###-###-####. Good luck and maybe we'll be in a class together!

Have you looked thru the city of Plymouth parks and rec? you should have been meailed the fall activities brochure but if you don't have look online, search for city of plymouth yand at that site you can go to the parks and rec link. Also New Hope, Maple Grove and Crytsal are all near Plymouth and they will have stuff at their parks and rec too so check out their city sites. There should be stuff for adults and kids.
I have a lady from my chucrh group who owns a kids art studio in Maple Grove but I can't find the name of it just yet, she usually emails me upcoming classes so I can forward that to you when I get another email. Also the school district you are in offers adult and early childhood education, either one of those may have some art type classes. Hope that helps

Sounds like the Minnetonka center for the Arts might be just the right fit for you. It's located in Orono, they have kid's and adult art classes and although we've never attended, I have heard such great things from other families. Be sure to check it out. I think it's pretty well-respected as far as art classes go (especially for adults).
