We are going to be taking a short vacation the end of this month and I need to find somewhere to board my medium sized dog. I would like to find somewhere that she can at least get outside once in awhile to run around. If anyone has any suggestions for dog boarding in Plano I would appreciate it! Thanks in advance!!

What can I do next?

I have used Doggie Daycare at Alma/I90 in Plano. I liked them because the dogs aren't just left in a cage. They let the dogs go in and outside via doggy door throughout the day and keep smaller and larger dogs separate. K.

Unfortunately, I can't speak from experience because we haven't boarded my dog but I toured Bo's Bunkhouse (McDermott & Preston) and was very pleased. The staff was very friendly and the dogs looked like they were having fun playing in the "playroom". They also have some neat suites if you want your dog to have her own room that they call Cozy Cabins. There's a doggie bed (a Simmons mattress), flat screen TV and all the walls are painted with western outdoor murals - ranch style. They even have daily turn-down service with a treat. The rates seemed reasonable to me but again, we haven't actually used them. My sister lives in the neighborhood so we have her check on our dog but if we ever go out of town and she isn't available, I would be comfortable boarding Duke at Bo's. Their website is bosbunkhouse.com

I can't remember the name of the place, but there's one on Alma between Plano Pkwy and George Bush. It actually used to be a child care facility. The dogs can go inside and outside as they please. My neighbor was very happy with their facility.

Please check out Doggie Zen Den. www.doggiezenden.com It is a very nice place. I take my puppy there for classes. It has a nice outdoor area with a waterpark for the dogs. Amanda is one of the trainers and she is a great. Be careful because some people just open these places up because they are a money maker. You want someone who really understands dogs and their behavior. They also are very good about putting dogs together during playtime that are the same energy level and size.

Have you thought about having someone house sit/dog sit? I have used Beth Cohn and Traci Bowers. They love dog sitting and it gives you a little more piece of mind. Traci's "real" job is a leasing agent for a major apartment complex and Beth's "real job" is a supervisor at Starbucks.

We brought our 2 dogs to Pappy's Pet Lodge. If I remeber correctly, they have a web-cam where you can see your dogs while you're away, and when we went our of town, my husband called to check up on them and the staff was helpful (we have 2 labs).

Plano's 4 Paws Inn! We have a Chihuahua that stays there all the time! He basically never sees his pen except for at night. Plays with other dogs all day long. They have an area behind the front desk where they let the dogs play. How well your dog plays with others will affect how much he is out with them.

When ever we tell our dog he is going to doggie day care, he runs to the door and cries the whole way til we get there. He loves it and is always exhausted from play when we pick him up. I believe it is $18 a night and the dog runs are huge - not a cage like at some places. We always take his crate to put in there, dog toys, blankets, treats, etc.

Have a great vacation.

I am not sure of any boarding facilities that let them have outside play in Plano. But if you go just about 15-20 mins north in McKinney, there is a wonderful place. Pappy's in Plano is great, but they are caged most of the day. Rover Resort in McKinney is great. I leave my babies there and Cathy is such a sweetheart. Check them out. It is worth the drive.
