Welcome to the Watauga area. I live in North Fort Worth, so that is where most of my experiences are....
Mexican--Los Molcajetes on the corner of Western Center and Beach street--in a shopping center with Albertsons.
Also, Los Posados on 35 between Western Center and Basswood is REALLY good.
Chinese--Honestly the best Chinese I have found is Taste of Asia on Basswood and Beach. They have a variety of Asian foods, and it is not a buffet--my family is not a big fan of buffets. The other one I have always liked is on the corner of Rufe Snow and Hightower, but I can't remember the name.
Pizza--Double Daves in Keller on 377 has really good pizza. I also like Papa John's really well. On 377 in the Albertson's shopping center is Papa Murphy's. I like their "specialty" pizzas, but not their more traditional pizzas. They make it when you order it, then you cook it at home.
Fried Chicken--have you heard of Babe's in Roanoke? It's worth the drive--all they serve is fried chicken and chicken fried steak--all family style. It is really good--and just a fun dining experience.
I haven't tried it, but have heard all GREAT things about the restaurant on Watauga Road that is in the gas station--I think it is called Chef Point. I have looked at the menu, but not convinced my husband to go there.
I can't make any recommendations on BBQ--just don't know enough....
That's all I can think of right now. These are all kid-friendly places. I can't wait to see other responses because I too like the smaller places better than chains. Hopefully I can find some new places as well.
