Looking for Fun Unique Ideas for the Weekend

I really enjoyed the Howell farm in New Jersey right across the river- I think if you google it it will come up. They have fun stuff all the time for the kids. The kids Castle park up in Doylestown is an amazing park - Its also called "Central Park" I think. Its a hit for all ages - and not too much of a drive. I like especially if you have a group or friends that want to do something as well and they are different ages.

There is a free farm across the river just south of Lambertville caled Howell Living HIstory Farm- really fun and nice.
And of COurse, there is always Sesame Place.

There are so many things to do, not just in Philly but in the suburbs as well! It would take me forever to list all the things we do/have done/like to do with our kids. My suggestion: go online to the Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, Phila. and Chester County Visitors' Bureaus. (Also some NJ Visitors Bureaus....) Look up info and ask for info to be sent to you. Also, you can go to the visitors' bureaus for specific towns. We love the off the beaten track places. Gather all the info, keep it in a file folder or small bin, and refer to it often! Also, there's a book on places in PA to go to with children. It's amazing how many things you may find, practically in your own backyard! When my kids were 2, we used to take them to a lot of places one might not think to take a 2 yr old. My playgroup, about 10 families, would organize (we took turns) field trips for the kids...historic homes, supermarket tours, post office, etc. Places you might not think to take a 2 yr old, but our kids took it all in! Also, if you haven't been to Dutch Wonderland and are looking for an amusement park experience, it's WONDERFUL for a 2 yr old! Have fun! Two is SUCH a fun age!

We have a 5 year old and a 2 year old and we all love going to watch polo on Saturdays at Tinnicum park in PA (right on the Delaware river), it's $5 per car load and we take a picnic and plenty of toys and we set-up an area for the kids to play in and stay there all afternoon. The organizers give you a rule book so you know the rules and there is a great comentator that explains the whole match as they are going. the website is http://www.tinicumpolo.org/. We also love to do the PA renaissance fair in Lancaster. Around labor day they have a special kids themed weekend which is great! the website for that is www.parenfaire.com

Sesame Place, Peddlers Village in the fall has scarecrow display, Apple picking & pumpkin picking at area farms, Please Touch Museum in the city (new one opens in the fall).

There are literally TONS of things to do in the Philly area, so you should not run out of outings for quite awhile. A few places we like to take our daughter include the Please Touch Museum, The NJ State Aquarium in Camden and many of the wonderful local playgrounds, including Smith Memorial Playground in Fairmount Park, Mason's Mill Park in Huntington Valley and others. Also, there are other children's museums including the Discovery Museums in Cherry Hill and somewhere else in south Jersey. A great source for ideas is www.dancingmeatballs.com and www.visitpa.com under "things to do".

Next door to the Camden Aquarium is a place called Childerns garden-I have never been there but I heard it was really nice.

Storybook land in New Jersey is a wonderful place to bring small children. There is a website. It is a really old fashioned amusement park geared to young children with displays all over from different Nursery Rhymes.
Also, there is a Children's Museum in New Jersey which is really nice.
There is a children's area in the Academy of Natural Sciences in Phila which is great if he likes dinosaurs, but you might want to wait a year for that.

If your son likes trains, you could go to Lancaster, Pa. and see the trains out there, I know on certain dates Thomas Train runs there. We've taken our Grandsons and they loved it. He might also like to go to Hershey Park candy factory, you can go through the tour for free and pay to let him feel like he's made candy. That was a big hit with all 4 of my grandchildren. In Flemington this weekend there's a county fair. its just off 202 take the 2nd exit for Lamberville, or if you cross the Lambertville-New Hope bridge you go through the town of Lambertville to the last light its a T intersection, make a left and follow that rode for about 4-5 miles and the fair will be on your left. If he likes animals you might like this. Hope this helps.

I few things come to mind. In Wrightstown, there is a Grange Fair every year, probably going on right now. It involves the 4H group, good food, rides for the kids. It a local small annual fair - think of it as a country fair if you will. I haven't been there in years, but went every year with my parents when I lived near by. Also, think about the Crayola factory in the Allentown area. Also, in Doylestown on Ferry Road starting soon (I thinks is runs for 2 long weekends is the Polish Festival at the Shrine of Czestochowia. The last thing that comes to mind is Peddlers Village in Lahaska. There are now 2 parts to this area. One is called Penns Purchase, just shops (outlet stores). The other side is more unique shops but for kids there is a small area in the back called "giggleberry farms". Smaller kids love this. It an outdoor area. Various times throughout the year the grounds will host various events. For example in May it the strawberry festival and one that I still love is October for the "scarecrow contest" and display. In late Sept or early Oct. they have an event where kids/families could build scarecrows and then they are displayed all along the walk ways. Also various local artists of all sorts will submit scarecrows too. My kids are a teenagers so my husband and I make it a point to go one late afternoon evening in October to walk around to admire the various scarecrows and have dinner out. On all of my suggestions please look into before head out to them because I haven't been to them in a few years and things change. Have Fun.
