Looking for Great Unique Gift Idea for 1 Year Olds

I have been a nanny for two great babies, boy/girl twins, for the past 4 months. They are wonderful kids and I enjoy watching them very much. They will be 1 yr. in September and I want to get them something. They have family from all over the country coming in for their special day so I know they will get wonderful gifts. I want to be able to give them something special and unique and something practical. I don't have a ton of extra money but they are great kids so I'm thinking the $40-$50 range. If you have any idea to pass along that would be great. Thanks.

What can I do next?

Maybe choose a book for each of them that was very special to you as a child. Sign the book with an explanation of why it is special to you and why you wanted to share it with him/her. This is something they will cherish forever.

Peace and Love,

Amber

V.,
How sweet! I know the absolute perfect gift for them. I am a consultant with Story Time Felts and they produce wonderful felt and flannel board stories which my kids love. One of the things they have is a darling little "Terrific Twins set"
It is a boy and girl baby twin set and they are felt dolls with felt clothes (instead of paper dolls, we have felt dolls) They have cute little mix and match clothes and the kicker is that you can even get the dolls personalized. You can email a pic of your cuties and they will put it on the doll's face. Not only a wonderful toy that is washable, educational and entertaining but with a pic it's a keepsake as well.
The regular Terrific Twins cost only $19.99 uncut or $22.99 pre-cut and ready to go. They come with a cute little vinyl carrying case. You can check them out on storytimefelts.com and if you'd like to email me at ____@____.com I can let you know more about the personalization and customer discounts. We also have some other items I recommend for babies, our finger play fun set with CD and several quiet books.
I hope this helps and I hope that you have a wonderful celebration. You must have some amazing skills to be taking care of all of those little cuties at once! I'd love to hear how you do it!
Hope to hear from you! R. C :)

What about sneaking them off to a portrait studio, like Sears or JcPenney to have some fun photos taken. Sounds like they will get plenty of other gifts, but photos are always priceless.

I like the photograph idea. But instead of taking the twins to a studio take some great candid shots with your own (or borrowed) digital camera. You can get them printed at Costco, Target, or online ordering for not much money. You can even get them printed in black and white in 5x7 or larger or even do a collage frame. Frame them yourself - you can find reasonably priced frames at Target etc. A one year birthday is more about the family then the kids and the photos will be something the kids will cherish too as time goes by.

Well, I really like the idea of portraits. However, I would recommend going to Kiddie Kandids. They have some really great ideas, products, backdrops, props that will make the pictures unique and special. I went to JCPenneys once and ended up having to send the pictures back to their lab to get re-cropped (total wait time was 3 weeks). They were awful!! I've never had a problem with Kiddie Kandids though (and you get your portraits same day). I usually have certain photographers that I go to (let me know if you want to know their names) - oh, and they take appointments now, which is even better! Another idea is to go to Babinski's boutique in Foothill Village. They have some unique gift ideas that might help. Good luck!

I think classes are a great gift idea. They can't get thrown aside like a toy can. You could buy a few Gymboree classes or maybe a couple of swim classes at the local rec center.

To go along with the portrait idea, you might also look at having a plate or something similiar made with their (or even a group/family photo) pictures on it. You can get them made at Walgreens pretty inexpensively, and it would be something they could use now and also cherish as a keepsake when they get older.

Best Wishes,

A.

If you have access to digital pictures of the children, you can use a service like www.picaboo.com and create a scrapbook or story book with their pictures. The parents will probably be more excited than the kids will at this age, but when they're older, the books will be a great keepsake.

I like the picture idea also.

If you are thinking more along the idea of toys, check out www.novanatural.com They have a lot of great quality, wooden toys. The push lawn mower is my standard one year birthday gift. The push along car is my standard baby boy gift. Toddlers also really like the pull toys. You could get one the bunny and one the alligator.

Good luck!
