The Elmhurst Park District opens their gymnastics room at the Wagner Community Center to toddlers and preschool age children on Tuesdays and Fridays. I think the open gym hours are from Noon to 2PM. You can check the park district website or call WCC. I started taking my son there when he was two and he loves it. They have a lot of things to climb on and they have a big area to run around. They usually have soft balls or hoops out for kids to play with too. It can get a little crowded on rainy days but it's never been too bad when we've gone. Pump it Up on Lake St in Elmhurst also has open play hours for toddlers/ preschoolers. They have a calendar on their website that lists the days and hours. I think they are usually mornings from 10AM - 12PM.

Hi A.-

The McDonalds in Elmhurst on York Rd. near Grand Ave. has a nice indoor play gym.

There's another McDonalds with an indoor play area that's only a mile away from Elmhurst is the one on St. Charles- a couple blocks west of Rt. 83

The Enchanted Castle in Lombard on Roosevelt Rd. is fun for kids and they have an indoor play area.

Chuck E. Cheese is near Elmhurst but it's actually in Villa Park or Lombard. Fun indoor place for kids and the tunnel/slide is free.

Stratford Mall in Bloomindale is approx. 15 minutes away from Elmhurst. They have two soft play areas in their mall.

Yorktown Mall in Lombard is around 10-15 minutes from Elmhurst and they have a kiddie train and treehouse climbing play area.

And I know your requesting indoor play areas, but how about the Elmhurst Library for story time and interactions with other kiddies in the kid's area of the library? My mom lives in Elmhurst and I know the library is so nice!

Have fun with your little one!

Hi A.,

Check out www.kidwinks.com. Click on the Ongoing Activities tab and you'll see along the left various categories of activities, including Indoor Kids Activities. Click on that, and a set of sub categories will appear, including Indoor Play Areas. There are 42 of them, but if you become a member of kidwinks (which is free), you'll then be able to sort that list of 42 results in order of distance from your house. Kidwinks also has a great Events Calendar (free days at museums, pop in playtimes at Pump It Up, story times, festivals, etc.) and in the Restaurants section you can use the Kids Eat Free Calendar to click on a day to find where kids eat free.

Hope this helps!

Barefoot fun and Fitness at Eldrige Park has an open gym on Friday's, I think it's $5.00. Call the park district to check time. Perfect for that age.

I live in Lombard and have been looking for the same thing and I have not found anything. But Elmhurst Park District does have an open gym during the week, I think they call it Barefoot. It sounds fun the time just doesn't work for us. Just check out their website.
