I'm searching for low cost or free Summer Camps for my daughter who is turning 11 yrs old July 1st. If you know of any in Philadelphia that actually does activities with the children and maybe takes them on a few trips during the summer please let me know what they are. Also, I work full time and usually my mom would take care of her for me during summer months but she is really not in the condition to anymore she's been sick a lot lately. So I'd like to get her involved in a camp for summer. She's really shy and I think this would be a good way for her to get involved meet new friends, get some exercise and enjoy going on trips. She's really against going because as I've said she's very shy. I'm trying to figure out how to explain to her what a great experience camp would be for her. I had the same problem when I thought about getting her into the girl scouts, glad I didn't spend any money on it before she told me she didn't want to go. Personally when I was small I wanted to do all those types of things like learning to play an instrument, going to summer camps where you stay all summer, taking up dance classes, joining girls scouts, etc. But my mom was raising 3 of us alone, so we couldn't afford to go and do these things. I don't want her to go through her childhood and miss out on these opportunities that I'm willing to give her a chance to par take in. She really likes to draw and I was thinking that next summer I would sign her up for an art camp so if anyone knows of any in the Philadelphia, Pa area that are good for kids her age let me know.

Thank in advance

Almost all camps have money alloted for scholarships. These funds are specifically given to the organizations to fund the camp programs by boosting attendance.

check around... there are many camps that allow the kids to be junior counselors at that age.

This is a long shot, but--I'm signing my daughter up for the Northern Liberties Rec Center Camp, 7/7-8/15, $250/summer. It's for kids 6-10, but they may be able to make an exception for your daughter. Mary Kerr's the director; ###-###-####. She has a lot of stuff planned for the kids this summer.

Hope this helps--

Jean

You can go to your local YMCA and apply for a grant, which will pay part of the payment... They have all kinds of camps, and you can apply for a membership as well as child care and/or camp on the same grant... It takes 1 to 2 weeks for approval...

Try the Philadelphia Recreation Dept. They have very cheap city camps. Some costing 25 dollars a wk or less.
