Hello, I'm looking for a party location to have our 3yr old b-day party. He is BIG on trains especially Thomas the Tank Engine. Everything & everyone is one of the trains from Thomas the Tank Engine. Everyday he is a different train including Mommy, Daddy, & 4yr old brother. I'm usually Emily or Molly. He wears his conductor hat at all times & carries a train & or one of his Thomas the tank Engine books everywhere he goes. He's been asking for a Thomas the Tank Engine theme party since last year which I didn't do. I'd prefer the northside of Chicago but will definitely do downtown or a suburb. A friend suggested the Thomas the Tank Engine store at the Water Tower, downtown, which she said did have a party room but I've discovered has been closed for a while now. It would have been perfect.
We plan to have about 25 people, which includes about 7 little ones. I'm looking for an option that will give them space to run or at least somewhere that will keep the little ones entertained & or busy. Our place is out since we live in a small apartment with no yard. Plus since the party will be the end of September, weather may be a factor.
Thanks in advance!!

How about the Illinois Railway Museum? (www.irm.org) We are heading there this weekend for a Thomas exhibit. We are in the city and it's a bit of a drive, not sure where you're located.

My son loves the All Aboard Diner in Downers, already mentioned below but we have been there many times and it's very cute.

There is a place in Downers Grove called "All Aboard Diner." They have a smaller party room and the entire place is Train Themed. When you go there to eat you can sit at the counter and a train brings you your food. There is Thomas playing on TV screens, a train that runs around the top of the resturaunt, and a model train set-up where the kids can push buttons to make things happen (start the train, beep the horn, etc.) Not sure if you would fit in the party room...I'm sure you could call and ask. I believe it's family owned. Not much "running around room," but they might be so excited about all the train stuff that it wouldn't matter. You might want to look into that place. The website is:

Even if you didn't have the party there, he would love to go for lunch or dinner...if you don't mind making the drive. My 3 year old LOVES it there and so do many of the moms I know.

There is a huge Thomas the Tank Engine store in Geneva, IL. The downtown area of Geneva is really, really cute and quaint...A great place for a party.

There's a place in the south Loop called Room2Play. I believe their biggest birthday package includes a theme and I am certain trains were one of those they could do. We've gone for open play and it's VERY clean and the party rooms are too cute.
