hi there, we also live in Waltham and are very happy with Beaver Brook Pediatrics. The ONLY possible downside is that they don't have an onsite lab for bloodwork, but we've only had to do that once in 3 years, and the labs are local as well.. I think most ped's will let you do an interview before you "sign up". Good luck and congratulations!

Hi P.,

I live in Bedford but I drive to Cambridge for our pediatrician because she is SO phenomenal! Her name is Dr. Deborah James of Children's Garden Pediatrics and she's located at 799 Concord Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138. Office phone is ###-###-####. Her receptionist, Verna, is very personable and helps keep things running smoothly.

"Dr. Deb" has her own practice which is just over 1 1/2 years old. This is GREAT, because it means I never have trouble getting (or rescheduling) an appointment, even on an emergency basis. Prior to that she was with a practice in Cambridge for 1.5 years, and prior to that she was with one in Quincy for several years. (She and her husband live in Newton and the commute was too long, so she changed practices.)

I should say that I met Deb because ours husbands were work colleagues. This gave me a chance to know her opinions as doctor in a casual setting without having to "risk" being her patient first. Our philiosophies on child-rearing and general children's health mesh perfectly, so I've never been uncomfortable with her suggestions or direction. She always spends lots of time during visits with each of my sons and answers any questions I may have. She writes down her suggestions or things to look for so I won't forget by time I'm out the door, and she even Blackberry's prescriptions straight to CVS so I can just pick them up on my way home!

Her bedside manner is excellent, and each of my sons has been her "first patient" in her last two practices. In fact, my second son was born at home and she came and did a home visit when he was less than 24 hours old!

I highly recommend Dr. Deborah James to anyone who's looking for a personable, young (~30 something), enthusiastic pediatrician who keeps up with what's going on in medicine today (great with all the changes in infant/toddler immunizations!). Good luck!

We've been taking our kids to Mass General West ###-###-#### in Waltham (right off 128 near the Home Depot) to see Beth McCabe. We left for awhile to try a practice closer to home but switched back. It's worth the drive! They are professional and thorough - have onsite labs, good nursing staff. We're not the kind of parents who call for every little sniffle, but have had a few cases where we've needed to call off hours and felt well responded to. Good luck!

I highly recommend Dr. Elissa Rottenberg in Newton Centre. She's young, personable and very laid back. We NEVER wait for our appointment once we arrive at the doctor's office. Also, in the first year, there will be a lot of occassions when you second guess yourself regarding your childs health- i.e. I wonder if he/she has an ear infection or is it just teeth. I wonder if his/her change in stools is okay, maybe I should take the baby to the doctor to confirm. Dr. Rottenberg and Kathleen (her Physicians Assistant) always make time for me immediatly when I call. I also really like that vaccinations are given by mulitple nurses at the same time so your child doesn't have to poked and then a minute later poked again and then two minutes later, poked again. Dr. Rottenberg and her team are a very thoughtful and caring group.

P.S. Dr. Dallos was my pediatrican growing up and as a physician he has a TON of experience. As a child, I liked him very much. Because he's been practicing in Waltham for such a long time >20 years, he has a large patient load. This translates into LONG waiting times in his office and less availablity for appointments.

Is Newton ok for you? I see Dr. Dominguez and Dr. Gwon at Newton Wellesley Hospital and they are GREAT. I highly, highly recommend them and their practice.
They are in the medical building of the hospital so if you ever need tests done, you simply have to go to another part of the hospital - not get in your car and go somewhere else.
They both have excellent bed side manners and are great with newborns.
Dr. Gwon is female - she is also a lactation consultant which helps.
Dr. Dominguez is a male and is the sweetest doctor - EVER.
Thi practice also has a walk-in clinic Mon - Fri 8am-10am, and an on call service for after hours.
They are open on weekends too!

Good luck!

My daughter has seen Dr. Wang and Dr. Dallos who are located in the old Waltham hospital - DEFINITELY AVOID them at all costs! That is the best advice I can give. We currently go to Hardvard Vanguard in Watertown (across the street from Target) and see Dr. Mitchell. We are currently delaying vaccination and she isn't supportive at all and she doesn't support co-sleeping (so isn't all that attachment parenting friendly) but I think as a medical doctor she is pretty good. I guess it all depends on your beliefs. I wish you the best of luck! And congratulations!

We go to Beaver Brook Pediatrics in Waltham, on Waverly Oaks Rd., which is on the Waltham/Belmont/Arlington side. We have two girls and we have loved them consistently for both our kids! We see Dr. Diane Pigula, but there are three other doctors in the practice we have seen on our doctor's off days, and I like them all. In fact, we have been dealing with the stomach bug for both girls over the past week, and with our baby, it was very scary because she wasn't keeping anything down. I called the answering service at night and last weekend and the dr. on call called back immediately and was very helpful. Our own doctor called last week just to check on the baby and see how she was doing. I wouldn't hesitate to send any mom there! The number is ###-###-####. Good luck!

I also go to Beaver Brook Peds. We see Dr. Pigula with our 3 month old son. She has been excellent. They also have privileges at Mount Auburn Hospital if that is where you are delivering. It's kind of nice to see your ped. right away while you're still in the hospital--reassuring.
