We use Maytag front load we it supposed to save money on water - probably true but I don't like front load...you can't add stuff in after you started it and you have to buy special HE detergent for it.

Hi Moms,
We're looking for a new washer and dryer. Any info on what you love or don't love would be appreciated. I'm more concerned about quality and durability than price - especially since I wash about 1000 loads a week...or so it seems!

Hi N.!
As the other moms have said, I would also recommend a front loader. We have a Kenmore front loader. I think I do about the same amount of laundry as you (1000+ loads a week).
The front loaders dry (spin) so much more, so litterally your dryer time is cut in 1/2!
Good Luck with your appliance search!

Hi!
i would highly recommend the whirlpool Duet washer and dryer (front loaders) - they can hold so much laundry and they're energy effecient. i've got 2 little ones w/ a third on the way so i'm doing tons of laundry. i love them - well worth the money!!
We've had a Calypso by Whirlpool washer and dryer for over a year now and really like them. B/c it's HE, it uses a LOT less water. Plus, it holds a large load (I like to cram as much in as possible). Since the dryer has Senseon, it sometimes will turn off even though something in the center of the load is still damp. But, I just manually ("timed dry" button) put in a time instead of pressing the type of load button. I guess I'm not being effecient in that aspect, but I want to make sure everything is dry.
I highly recommend a front loading washer and dryer. It will handle a greater capacity and save water and energy in the long run. I also recommend the storage bins that you can place underneath each which works great not only for keeping all of your laundry goods in...but also REALLY helps with your back so you are not having to bend up and down all the time. Hope this helps. We love ours!
I have the maytag neptune washer and dryer and I love it. I have 4 children and do about 20 or so loads a week and have never had a problem. It uses less soap than top loaders and the dryer keeps up with the washer so you never have laundry waiting. It has multiple cycles to fit just about any need. I have had the washer for 3 years and the dryer for 2 and it is incredible and I will never go back to a top loader again.
Good luck!!
Hi N.,
When my husband and I moved into our house 5 years ago, we did some research and bought a Maytag Neptune (front loading) washer and dryer. They both do such a great job. At the time, they were the largest capacity but now I believe the Whirlpool Duets are much larger and I wish I had those. Something to watch out for though: The Maytag Neptune that I have has a mold problem. Most washers I suppose are susceptible to this and that's why you should always try to leave the lid or door open however mine actually had a class action suit against it for this problem. Unfortunately I found out about it too late. Anyway, I've had to clean some mold out of the rubber gasket area where the door closes and now I leave the door open. This kinda sucks because the machine's light and control panel are always on now. So, make sure you ask about mold problems. I'm sure some machines handle this better than others. Otherwise, front loaders are amazing! Good luck.
I have a Duet front loader. I did a lot of research on appliances when we bought our house last year, and narrowed it down to Kenmore, Whirlpool Duet or Maytag front load machines. The HE laundry detergent is a little more expensive, but you use less of it. Also, I have found that I don't have to use stain remover very often. Most of them time, the stains will come out with just a regular wash. My husband spilled a cup of coffee down a pair of light grey slacks -- came out with no problem, no additional stain remover. I think I've only had to use stain remover for my 18 mos old's clothes when he smears ketchup or jelly all over himself. He is now in training pants and when he has an "accident" those come clean very easily, too. If you have an efficient washer, you can skimp on the dryer. I bought a Kenmore high capacity dryer for $450 instead of the matching Duet dryer and saved myself about $500. Also, check out www.consumerreports.org for basic info. You have to have a membership to get all the details on washing machines and a big comparison chart with all the features for each model, but I think it's only $25/year.
