My husband and I are looking to start a business within the next couple of months. I used to work as a bookkeeper and accounting assistant in the old days, but we will need someone who KNOWS the ins and outs of business accounting. HOw to do the taxes, payroll, when to file with state (quarterly?), when to file federal (yearly?), social security payments for the employess, FICA, etc.... Any information that anyone might have will definitely be useful. OR if anyone is in this line of business and would be willing to be our accountant at reasonable monthly rates, that would be great too.. Please let me know if you have any information... Thanks everyone!!!!

What can I do next?

Our accountant is a woman called Lynn Doherty who works out of Crystal Lake. She is awesome. I'm not sure how much she charges if you want her to do daily stuff. We use her for taxes, mainly. She helped us to set up our business and helped me to figure out how to do the taxes myself. We also use Quickbooks and they will do all the tax stuff for you for a small fee. It's nice to have an accountant to help you get set up though. Even without assisted payroll, the taxes aren't too hard once you get them setup and have a couple of months practice with them. The hardest part for me is remembering to pay them on time. I am trying to implement a reminder system.

I do the books for a small business and we use Quick Books. Very easy to use and has all the information already built in it for you. You will receive the payroll tax updates via the internet. We have an accountant who prepares our quarterly payroll tax returns and our yearly tax returns. Other than that we do everything ourselves through Quick Books. You may need the help of an accountant to set it up in the beginning but after that you will be good to go. Most accountants recommend that you use Quick Books. Hoepthis helps and good luck!

I am a licensed family childcare provider and have an accountant I trust in Wheaton, Mike Politowizc,e-mail at ____@____.com. I know he is particularly up to date in my small business (family childcare), not sure what other areas he or his partner have knowledge of, but it would be worth contacting him to see if he could handle your business needs as well. Tell him you got his name from K. Mueller from For Kids' Sake.

Good luck,
K.
