Looking to Make Some Extra Cash.....

I am a nanny through an agency which I can't bring my kids plus when my youngest was a baby I put out an ad for childcare on CL and got a lot of hits on that.
I did that for a about 1 1/2 yrs which saved me from drowning which is no easy task as a single parent, No it's not easy but it was worth it plus I was able to spend time w/my little one at home.

Jessica - I need a few more secret shoppers to finish out the year - we're not doing Carrollton until the first of the year, but I do need someone in the Coppell/Lewisville/Flower Mound area, and also someone in Frisco / West Plano - these areas only have one agent each right now & we need to add another in order to stay on schedule. Not sure where you are in Carrollton - if these areas would be easy.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. I know it is tough to try to keep cheering hubby on when things are not looking very great.

My idea is sometimes offensive to some moms here....(I have suggested it before and gotten nasty mom mail) but I feel it is worth saying again. I would stay away from all the MLM and "have your own business" offers. They sound great but most of the time you have to put an investment upfront and the only person making money is the one who signed you up. They prey on people who want something fast and at home...

I have done several focus groups for some of the companies around here. It is a lot of fun. You sign up, I am with Schlessinger, and they email potential groups to you for what they are looking for. If you qualify and are interested, you go do the focus group. I have made as much as $200 cash in 2 hours, trialed a razor study for 3 months (no razor purchases for 3 months!), babyfood trial when DD was a baby, interviews on advertising. It is very interesting. NOW, most of the time, they limit you to 1 study every 6 months. $200 is the most I ever made cash and $75 is the least. I justify the trip (gotta add gas and car expenses) by how long it is and how much I get paid.

A MDO program could also be an option for you to take your children along. Even if they do not have openings...they often need a substitute if a teacher is sick. I'm not sure how bringing your children along would work with subbing but the subbing could get you in the door.

Your errand idea sounds nice but take into consideration the wear/tear on your car and your expenses. Just make sure you can make some money.

Sell things on EBAY or Craigslist.

It doesn't pay a whole lot because it really isn't hard work but you would also be able to work from home (as long as you have a computer - which I'm assuming you do since you're on MamaSource!). The best idea I have, only because it has worked for me for 12 years now, is to babysit in your home. Decide how much money you need to make, and then figure out if you could watch that many children. It is hard, and clearly not for everyone, but there is always a need out there for childcare. I made a decision when my kids were born that I would never leave them in someone else's care, so this came out of necessity for us, but it has been a blessing. There are sacrifices, and you need to look at this from every angle, not just money. I used to agree when it came to MLM's because I had a bad experience years ago, but last October I started my own business with Shaklee. Shaklee was on Oprah 4 times last year and is the number one natural nutrition company in the United States. I know how tough things can be right now. I am watching chilren out of my home and my husband works for Blockbuster inc. We still feel the added stress of not having enough. We just got signed up with a new company called Qivana. It is still in Pre-launch mode. It is a 2 product total health system. The idea is to take the vitamin suppliments and tell others. They would then try it out for 5 days and would see how much better they feel and sign up to start taking the vitamins or become a distributor. The way you make money is so easy. Everything is done online. No parties, no stalking shelves of products. You send them to the websight/your name, they can learn about the products, try it for 5 days and sign up. Because this is so new everyone is going to be very interested in learning more about the products. I've done Mary Kay and other such sales, but have found that those do not work because they have been out so long that everyone know about it already. This company only has 500 people in it as it has not launched yet, but is set to be over 500,000 in just a few years. You could easily build people under you an you would recieve % off every sale. You are more than welcome to babysit for us when we need if you like. Sometimes are main sitter is unavailable so it would be nice to have a back up.
Secondly, for extra money, I;m a personal assistant out hire. Which means that anyone can hire me anytime,anyday at the rate of 150/day(plus cost of supllies if needed) to do pretty much anything(except anything domestic like cleaning). I run errands,type letters,plan parties,personal shopping,slideshows,scrapbooks,invitations,travel planning,diet meal planning,interior decorating..you name it,I do it. And I'm virtual so its mostly handled via Internet unless they need to give me papers,supplies,photos, or plans in person.
In one day, I made travel plans, found a flattering ballgown under requested amount,made hair appt,picked up dry cleaning,stocked fridge,and walked a dog... all for one couple.
I made my own advertisements and put them up around my neighborhood as well as posted an ad on craigslist. I sent emails to friends who forwarded the info on to other friends and so on.
You could do something like this maybe?
