Hi E.. Lisa Baute was my ob for both my pregnancies. She was absolutely wonderful as were the other docs I met in the practice. However, I can't say the same for my experience with the hospital. My first labor was very long (constant contractions, but I wasn't dilating) and I was in the hospital for much of it. The nurses were kind and helpful and my delivery went well. A nurse midwife delivered my son b/c he arrived when all the docs were in two different c-sections. The postnatal care was also great and I decided to return to MGH for my second delivery. Again, it was a very long labor and this time they kept sending me home (after 17 hours of labor). The first time around I lived in Boston, but for my second delivery I was driving back and forth from the suburbs. Unfortunately I did not make it back to MGH for the delivery (my son was born at Newton-Wellesley) and I was about 15 minutes away from having him at home. Once I started dilating the first time I delivered in less than 20 minutes. The same thing happened during my second labor and for this reason I shouldn't have been sent home. They didn't have a room for me, which is one of the issues with going somewhere like MGH. I wish I could recommend MGH, especially since I used to work there and it's an incredible facility with wonderful doctors, but if I have a third child I definitely won't take the risk and will go back to Newton-Wellesley. It sounds like you live close to MGH so this type of thing wouldn't happen to you, but it's a big place and you might have to speak up if you feel that your needs aren't being met. Best of luck with your pregnancy!
