Low Lying Placenta - Pocatello,ID

I am 24 weeks pregnant and just had a doctors appointment today. He said from my last ultra sound that I have a low lying placenta and he explained all the potential problems that can go along with this. He said if it doesn't correct it's self it's a little more scary only because this will be my 3rd c-section and because of the scaring on my uterus it makes a greater change of a uterun rupture. He said most woman that get this are fine and it goes away as the baby grows but there is a change that I will start bleeding, have to go on bed rest or end up going into labor early. So I guess I'm just wondering from the woman that have also had this what your out come was? Did it resolve on it's own? Did it stay and therefore did you have more complications? Just looking for more info on the matter.
with my first pregnancy I did have full on Placenta Previa and started bleeding heavily. i went on bed rest for 3 weeks and then it had moved. But I was only about 12 weeks along and had never had a c-section so my uterus was much stronger at that time. So I know it can resolve but with having 2 kids already and scaring on my uterus I'm just a little more worried.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks Ladies for the info. regardless of whether it moves or not I still have to have a c-section due to other medical problems so that isn't the issue. I'm just more worried about having to go on bed rest. I have 2 kids already and my hubby is in Iraq so yeah it would be hard to go on bed rest right now. But hopefully at the next ultra sound it will have moved.

Hi Andrea, I had this exact condition and no, it did not resolve itself. I ended up having to have a c-section. I never had any bleeding or anything. My doctor explained to me that the placenta is attached to the uterus and so it's not like it's going get up and movee so I've never beeen quite sure where this "resolve itself" statement fits in. Don't worry if you have to have a 3rd c-section. I have several friends who have had 3 with no issues whatsoever.

Mine corrected itself around week 30, but I ended up with a c-section anyway (different reason)!

A lot of times it moves because as your uterus grows, it moves up. It's very common. If you don't have full placenta previa, you'll probably be okay. I've seen it happen several times. And if you don't have placenta previa, has your doctor told you about being given a "trial of labor." The national association of OBGYN's has now come out with a statement that it's safe to let women try for a vaginal birth after 1-2 cesareans. I know the idea might be a scary one to you at first, but if you read the information and do the research, you might really be comfortable with it. Here's the official article you can talk to your doctor about.

Here is also an article about a woman who had a vbac after 4 cesareans

I had that with both pregnancies and it corrected itself towards the end of the last trimester.

Sometimes I wonder if doctors tell us too much. I mean, why even tell you until it really is a problem?

I had placenta previa with baby #2. It caused me to have a c-section because you can't deliver the placenta first. Babies #1 and #3 were natural. I had no bleeding, no pain, no bed rest.

I also had this in my second pregnancy and ended up fine. Now, I didn't have a C-section with my first, so my situation is a little different from yours, but the doctor's right--chances are, your placenta will move and you won't have to worry about it. Hopefully yours won't wait until VERY END to move like mine did (not kidding--not until the last couple weeks did that thing make it's way up!). But it didn't matter when it moved, it was out of the way by delivery. You probably know this, but make sure you drink lots of water. That was even more important in my 2nd pregnancy. Good luck!
