Here is a forum that has some good information on this http://cureyourbody.com/index.php/forums/viewthread/390

You may need to register, it's free, to view it. I don't know for sure since I am registered.

I also here some people go to Dr. Goode in the Triangle to figure out their thyroid problems.

Heidi's response is right on with mine. The info on the web i've found is on about.com. http://thyroid.about.com/od/thyroidbasicsthyroid101/u/sym...

Mary Shomon writes for about.com on this subject and has written several books you can get at the Wake County Public Library so you don't have to buy them.

I liked this one:
"Living well with hypothyroidism : what your doctor doesn't tell you ... that you need to know" ISBN: ###-###-####

I had trouble getting pregnant and then had a miscarriage at 6 weeks b/c my thyroid levels were too low. I was on Synthroid, but the dose was too low. I got a higher dose & I got pregnant the next cycle and now have a wonderful baby girl.

Also FYI, a couple of years ago the American Endocrinologists Association (or whatever professional organization it is) recommended a change to want was considered a "normal" range. Many labs still use the old numbers. Make sure you find out your real numbers, not just if you are within "normal" range.

Hello,

Were you diagnosed with hypothyroidism? I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism (under active thyroid) over 8 years ago. I am currently taking Levoxyl to regulate my thyroid levels. I am unaware of any alternative or over the counter medications. I would suggest visiting an Endocrinologist and discuss your situation. He/She will probably do bloodwork and prescribe medicine to regulate your thyroid.

Also, an untreated or undiagnosed thyroid disorder can cause issues with pregnancy and an unborn child.

Side note: I recently gave birth to a healthy baby girl.

Please feel free to ask me any additional questions. IMO, you will probably need doctor prescribed medicine to treat your thyroid, and you will need to take this medicine for life.

Best of luck.

I have the same issues and take Synthroid every day. I haven't had any side effects and the medication is inexpensive. I have a GREAT endocronologist who is listed as one of the best in the Southeast, Dr. Shawnee Weir, if you're interested. She's located in Raleigh. Good luck!
