Make-Up Artists?

Some girlfriends are getting together (out of town) in Sacamento for a wedding shower.
We would like to do some pre-wedding things and girly things.
We talked and would love to find a "Make-Up Artist". Not meaning going to a makeup counter at the mall.
Those visits have been great and I love them.
But we were all talking and wanted to treat ourselves to a professional make-up artist
Like the kind that does your make-up before you go on a talk show or on a soap opera.
Do they exist? If so, where do you find them?
Someone that can really hide your flaws and bring out your best features.
Do they exist for the "lay person"? TIA

What can I do next?

You live in the perfect place to find Professional Make up Artist.. Just Google them.

Here in Austin there is a Supply company that specializes in the makeup for RTV and photog.. make up artist. so they can make recommendations.

Also many hair salons and Professional Photographers work with these people. I would call around.

Yes, they do exist. I have a few friends that do makeup for a living (too bad we are in S.Florida)....One of my friends works for MAC but does a bunch of jobs on the side for makeup..I don't know the "going rate" in CA, but here it's about 60-90 per girl... They might charge a traveling fee as well depending on how far of a drive it is.. BUT make sure before you pick the person, you see what kind of makeup they've done on people.. MAC is a great line, but I've seen them do a okay job sometimes on people..

Sounds like a lot of fun. All MAC make up artists are MAC certified, they are professional artists. you can see if they are available for your event. Those tv make up artists usually work part time at the MAC counters and do house calls. Confirm the price quotes, possibly ask for a package deal before booking them.

I can see if there's a Motives professional in your area. It's a great make up line and they will come to you and pamper you. Send me your zip code and I will see what I can do.

Try searching the community forums at theknot.com.

weddingchannel.com also has forums but I'm not sure if they have local boards.

I found someone great through one of these sites -- I think it was The Knot.

And of course Google around for reviews of anyone you're considering. Yelp is usually pretty helpful.

Best of luck!

There is a very nice lady in auburn - Tanya Hibbard - who owns Cherry Glitters Makeup Studio. If she doesnt do what you want she would probably know someone who does. ###-###-####

Most good salons employ some. Full face application for photoshoot, wedding, film, night out, etc... is about $50-$75 per person in our area, depending on whether you need lashes, and $250 or so for full body application (yup, as an exmodel, I've had makeup in places we are NOT talking about. Ick. None of us in real life will EVER look like someone on screen or pages or runways. There's no way.) . The *place you're going/getting it applied for* is pretty key, because makeup changes rather drastically depending on whether you're just being seen through a lens (and what kind of lens), or in lens AND in person, or just in person.

There are also freelance makeup artists that are googleable

Whenever i want done up to the 9's I head over and use the artists my salon employs.

Merle Norman or MaryKay - which one sells independently? BeautiControl, Avon, & Arbonne are all options.

Contact your local reps & they'll be able to do a show for you!
