I was a Clinique user for many years but have since changed to Estée Lauder now that I am in my 40's. I love the "double wear" makeup.
Fyi... I believe Estée Lauder owns Clinique.
Hi all!
It has come due time that I changeup my makeup routine. It seems that I am suffering from creased eyelid syndrome ;-(, which is evident when I use eye shadow.
I currently use and love Clinique Even Better Foundation for my entire face. I tried eyelid primer but I don't really like it. Should I not be usin cream foundation anymore? Has anyone experienced Bare Minerals, and will it break my bank?
ETA: I think for my birthday I will get a Bare Minerals makeover/consult and see how I feel. I will not be giving up makeup for Lent because I am a different religion :-). Besides, I went without makeup for years and actually like experimenting now.

I'm 42, so I understand what you mean about needing to shake up the makeup routine. My needs definitely changed when I hit 40.
I have hooded eyelids and finally found something that makes my eyeshadow work -- Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer. I tested it last year using it in our 100+ degree heat and it even prevented creases then, so I was hooked.
For makeup, I noticed a lot of friends on FB raving about Everyday Minerals and just got some. Love it! It's about 1/2 the cost of Bare Minerals (it was only around $12) and makes my skin look so even and pretty. I use their matte version, but there are ones with less coverage. What's really awesome is that it comes in a ton of shades and you can get some free samples of like six or seven choices to find the right one. If I hadn't done that, I would have selected the wrong shade, for sure.
Good luck!
Go to the Bobbi Brown counter at Nordstrom for a makeover. She has great makeup for more mature skin and really good, natural looking routines that her counter staff can show you. I find that they are much better trained than some of the other lines.
I would ask the Clinique rep at the counter about options.
I LOVE Clinique and I use the repairwear line for moisturizers, etc. I use the compact City Base for a light foundation. Sometimes, I just use tinted City Block with powder and have good luck.
The only problem with bare minerals is that it accentuates fine lines & wrinkles...
... So I don't use it on my eyes at ALL. I use normal foundation for my eyes, and Bare Minerals everywhere else.
It won't break the bank, as its $30 BUT lasts for 4-5 months. Ends up being cheaper than drugstore makeup, much less Clinique & Dept. store makeup.
You can stretch it even further by not noting mineral veil more than once. MV is just cornstarch + foundation powder. Once you have the jar of it, refill out of your pantry, shake some foundation into it to tint, voila.
Back to eyes...
The crease is from the powder settling into lines/wrinkles. So there is no avoiding needing to change to a liquid shadow.
I love Bare Minerals, and I don't think it's too expensive. I'm 42.
I love it because it's quick and easy, and it looks good. Also, I can use as much or as little as I like. Usually I just use a little bronzer on my cheeks and eyes (instead of eye shadow), and dust on a little mineral veil to finish it off, and I'm done. It's so easy and natural looking! Add some lipgloss, and I'm ready for the day! *Sometimes I use mascara, but often I don't.
I have been using Bare Minerals for several years and will never go back to liquid foundation (I am 44.)
It costs $28-30 and lasts around two months. I use it almost every day. You also need to buy the brush (can't remember how much it cost) but it lasts a long time. As a matter of fact I have only replaced my brush once and that was only because I left it at a hotel :-(
I have also read that shimmery shadow increases the look of your fine lines so only use matte shadow.
Go to the store where you buy Clinique and ask for a consultant to help you. I know what you're talking about. When my Clinique water-based makeup suddenly started being soaked up - shloop! - by my skin, years ago, I did just that and met moisturizing makeup for the first time. Who knew that I, the human oil well, would ever need something like that? But I'm getting more and more moisturized all the time. I still like Clinique makeup better'n anything. I've found the consultants very, very helpful. They can tell me the details about every product in the place, and they know that if they make me happy, I'll come back.
I use the matte eye-shadow powder instead of anything frosted. It definitely works better on my own creased eyelids.
I use Bare Minerals. My inital purchase of foundation primer, foundation, brushes, 2 eye colors and eye lid primer, mineral veil, and bronzer cost under $150 3 months ago. The only thing I've had to buy since then was the mineral veil and foundation primer because the starter sizes were small. The rest of the stuff - eyes - looks like it will last forever, and the foundation looks like it has another 3 months left on it. So in all, it might average out to $20 bucks per month at the most?
I find it to be the best product I've ever used. Especially the eye products. I don't have over oily skin, but my eye shadows always ended up melted into my crease. Using the eyelid primer has eliminated this problem. My eye shadow looks the same at 8 pm after a karate class as it does when i apply it at 8 am.
The only thing I don't use from Bare Escentuals is their mascara. I use the NYC Curvy formula from Target. Costs a whopping $2.49. I learned about it from a beauty products review website. Again, it's the first mascara I've found that doesn't end up on my cheeks by 2 pm. Really inexpensive, works great.
Good luck!
Make sure you are using good ant-aging skincare that actually has results. I have loved the results from what I use. If your skincare is working great, you will not need to wear foundation....the skincare will even out the skintone. Definitely use primer all over your face and for eye makeup, stay away from any kind of eye shadow with sparkles in it. Obviously I am thrilled with my skincare. I use Arbonne and love it so much. First skincare that has actually shown results immediatelly.
Perhaps your skin type has changed and you need to change your make up type. Has your face become more oily?
Ask a make up rep at the counter of a department store.
I use Roc under eye cream for the crepe-y lines forming there. This product has made a huge difference in the texture of the skin around my eyes.
Have you considered going without? Never been one for makeup myself. A good moisturizer after I shower. Some lipstick, and perhaps eyeliner for a formal occassion.
Lent is around the corner. Maybe you could give up makeup for the duration, and see how you feel about yourself and about your face after the fact.
How's that for a new regimen?
Good luck to you and yours,
F. B.
What I would do is:
Just go to the make up counter, Clinique if that is your choice, and have the Make Up Consultant behind the counter, problem solve this for you.
They are used to, facilitating skincare and make up, per the ages of the woman and per the brand they are working behind the counter for.
Or, don't use Foundation. Unless you have to.
Many women don't even need it.
I don't use foundation.
I only use a translucent face powder. Either Clinique or a drug store inexpensive brand.
