hi all
I need some help finding the best way to manage my pcos. I am currently on bcp (kelnor) but feel like its causing depression/ moodiness and is killing my libido. without bcp I will go months without a period. i like the bcp because its regulates my period but that is all it is doing, and want to find a better solution that wont affect my mood/libido.

my doctor suggested another pill (Levora) but i saw that it also really affects libido/mood.

does anyone have any recommendations? I thought about doing an IUD but not sure if that is best with PCOS. I am worried about long term effects of taking the pill, but feel like I don't have an option otherwise lack of periods will put me at other risks of cancer.

open to natural remedies and vitamins, if anything is known to regulate periods.

thanks for all your help!

ps - not overweight, and not trying to get pregnant

What can I do next?

Go to an endocrinologist. Find out what's going on inside your body. An endocrinologist can help.

When I was younger, the pill helped me. However, it's just masking the problem. If you don't actually have cysts on your ovaries? Then you have an hormonal imbalance and you need to find the root cause instead of masking it.

Many times PCOS is used to "label" a W. who the OB/GYN cannot find out what's wrong, that's why you need the endocrinologist.

Hope this helps!

I was diagnosed at 18 with PCOS. I have been on and off vitamins b6 and vitamin E. Every single time I took them religiously, I had periods like clockwork. The second I stopped, the periods stopped.

Who told you a lack of periods puts you at risk for cancer? I have actually read things stating the opposite (for example as it relates to endometrial cancer). Can you share what info you have and where you obtained it?

Seriously - try the vit E and b6 - it blew me away every time at how well it worked.

I don't recall dosage, but I don't recall it being outrageous. Something like 2 vit E and one b6 per day? Ask your doc. It works! Good luck!

How about a low dose bcp? After I had my first daughter, I took the progestin only pills which regulated my periods as well as served as a contraceptive (most importantly). Best of Luck. Finding the right bcp ahs never been fun for me!

Wikipedia suggested taking progestogen every three months to induce a period. The reason for increased cancer risk without the bc pill is the build uo of the uterine lining causing dysplasia (?). Having a period every 3 months prevents that.

I suggest you see an endocrinolist to learn more about the condition and how to treat it. Even doing some reading about PCOS might help.
