I like it, but it isn't unique around here. I know 5 little girls named Marley, all with various spellings.

my daughter's name is Marlie (short for Marlena) and her middle name is Shaye. She's almost 3. I still love the name, and if she wants to have a longer name she has the option of using Marlena.

We have friends who named their second daughter Marley. Personally, I don't like it at all, but I don't have to. They hear a lot of Bob Marley comments.

How about Mia, Mya, Meave, Millie?

Hey Momma,

I hate to say it, but in our corner of the world, Marlee is not a unique name. I think I hear it shouted at some kid at the park or zoo on a regular basis.

I like the name, but chances are that there will be other Marleys (even just phonetically) in her school with her. Sorry.

Since we're talking baby names, had our son been a girl, she'd have been named Clementine.

When I was choosing a name for our daughter, 17 yrs ago, I tried to steer from the popular names at that time, cutsey names, and odd spelled names.

Children have to live with the name the rest of their lives and why make things more difficult in school and work for them to have to constantly spell and pronounce their name.

I like the name Marlee spelled as Marley... However, I don't think she would want to be associated with all the childrens books that are read a LOT in school about Marley the dog.

We chose Erin and to this day, there are very few Erin's at school. We also thought about what it would sound like when she turns 80...

Just a thought.

Dont tell anyone but my password on everything is Marley. My security question - favorite singer is always Bob Marley. I also love Damian Jr Gong Marley and have his cd playing in my car right now.

Having said all that,
I would never name my daughter Marlee - Because I associate it with the actor Marlee Matlin and I don't like her. SHe comes across as smug. hahaha I know. I am very strange.

I had a dog named Marlee, so I don't really like it for a girls name. It reminds me of my dog.
I'm not trying to be mean or rude, you just asked for opinions and that is mine. Good Luck!

Hmmmm.....I see a lot of people have reasons they don't like the name. But I like it! It "rolls off the tongue" nicely. I don't care who else is named Marley, it sounds nice. It sort of sings. And for a girls name I like the spelling (Marlee) also.

My daughter has a friend named Marlie (ie not ee). I love the name and she is a very sweet girl. Marlie's mom happens to be my daughter's teacher. I always find teacher's children's names interesting because they've heard them all!

I don't like it, but then, I don't like the last-names-as-girls-first-names trend. I also think that -ee ending names are cutesy. I have also rarely heard of women with cutesy-type names in successful or powerful careers; some studies have shown that names actually do influence who is hired for positions, so I personally prefer more timeless names. When naming our child, my husband said, "The thing is, you're not naming a baby. You're naming an adult." And it's true -- what name do you think will suit her and serve her well as an adult?

Anyway, it's not my style. That's only my opinion (for whatever it's worth!), but I guess opinions are what you're looking for!

Actress Marley Matlin (sp) . She is hearing impared and made quite a name for herself in the '80's and '90's. She occasionally appears a guest in weekly shows.

She starred in a series with Mark Harmon in the '90's. She was an assistant DA and he was the investigator assigned to her because he knew sign language. She also starred in Children of a Lessor God.

Not a fan of "ee" names, personally, let alone the name "Marley". There are just too many associations with the name that I wouldn't want it for my kid - Bob Marley, Marley & Me, Marlee Matlin.
