I have been married for almost 20 yrs. to a wonderful man... He treats me great and loves our 4 children very much. He has been experiencing some behavior changes. (Withdrawn, more serious than usual) Lately, we have had problems communicating and had been arguing a lot. Last week, he mentioned that he doesn't feel the same way he used to. He feels that we may need to end the marriage. I asked him if we could first try counseling. I love him so much and am trying to do more of what I should have been doing a long time ago. He really is a wonderful husband. Please help, I don't want it to be too late! Does anyone have any recommendations as to a marriage counselor? Thank you for your ideas...

We have a acounselor at our church and I think she deals with marriage issues. Call Alamo Height United Methodist Church at ###-###-#### and ask for the counselor Susan Dial.

There is a place called New Begginings Christian Counseling here is thier website http://www.newbeginningsclinic.com. My husband and I saw Gene Benidict and he is wonderful. Although it is a Christian counseling place they will not pray and such unless you feel comforatable with that. There is also a place called National Institute of marriage our pastor tols us about and we are currently trying to get the funds to go. It is a little pricey (3,500) but my pastor has said great things about them and said it is cheaper than a divorce. Thier website is http://www.nationalmarriage.com. Hope you two can find some help and just keep working on it. L.

My husband and I went to Bob Peden. He is a christian but is not exclusivley a christian counselor and did wonders for my husband and me! I'm not sure of the cost because our insurance covered it.
I think that because he was a man and former military officer my husband was more open to listen to him and not feel like it was all this "mushy" "touchy feely" stuff. I truly thank God for putting him in our lives!
My one advice would be try a few. Don't be afriad to go to someone else if you are not 100% comfortable with the couselor you first see! Best of luck!
If you would like his info let me know. I'd be happy to pass it on to you!

UTSA health science center has counseling for reasonable price. Also the Jewish community center has reasonable fees. Mostly I wanted to pass on how my heart breaks for you and what you are going through. I hope you can find a way back to each other.

I don't know of a specific marriage counselor. But my husband and I attended a Love and Respect conference with Mr. Eggerich (sp?). It is worth all the money you might have to spend to get to one. Your husband should go too. He has 2 books (Love & Respect and Breaking the Code of Communication?). They are worth reading. But, men don't always do well with reading and it would be good if you could get him to the conference; and he's not a man basher in case your husband has reservations. I highly recommend the books and especially the live conference. My husband and I had to go out of town to one on the advice of his therapist. Their website would have resources for you as well and might could get you a contact in your area for counseling. I think it's is just loveandrespect.com???? For yourself, I would secondly recommend the book Created to be a Helpmeet by Debi Pearl. I don't agree with every detail, but she has some amazingly wise advice for all types of situations. You can get that through ngj.com? or No Greater Joy Ministries. I hope that helps. I too have a great husband who has been going through a tremendous amount of emotional issues lately. We have been married for 14 years and I'm really struggling as well. These books have helped me and given me hope even if they didn't fix the problem. I will pray for you and your husband. Thirdly, my husband's counselor is Lynn Sutton ###-###-####? - if she can't help you she could direct you to someone I would hope. Hope I've helped. Fight for your family!!

I like Ginger Gray at the Abiding Hope Counseling Center (281/Bitters). She is a Christian and will pray for you and with you while you are in therapy with her - if you aren't "into that" - she may not be the one for you. She is straight forward, easy to talk to, compassionate, and gives a nice balance of "talk time" and "homework" to help you work thru your issues. She really helped me thru some of my withdrawing/isolation issues. You can check her out at www.abidinghopecc.com

Knowing you have problems and being willing to get some help is a huge step in the right direction - keep headed that way! And best wishes for the future - I'm hoping for the best for you & your husband.

I don't have a marriage counselor to suggest, but I would certainly recommend one who has a Christian background and basis of practice. I would recommend that you and your husband read this book called "The Five Love Languages" by Dr. Gary Chapman. It's very helpful in understanding how a person "feels" loved. You may not be speaking his love language or vice versa. I would also suggest reading "The Proper Care and Feeding of Husbands" by Dr. Laura Schlessinger. If you and your husband are both willing to try to save your marriage these books offer some great advice for not much money. Good luck!
