Maternity Clothes - Nutley,NJ

Believe it or not, I picked up a few simple, cute cotton dresses from Wal-Mart for about $10. Not maternity, just a size up from my pre-pregnancy size. Add some simple jewelry and cute, comfy sandles, I and feel dressed up! FYI - I'm 31 weeks along, I bought my dresses last month, and I plan on wearing them in the hospital after having the baby, instead of walking around the maternity ward in those lovely hospital gowns.

Target has great maternity dresses that aren't too expensive. There are quite a few cute things on sale online at Ann Taylor Loft, but I don't think they will let you return them to the stores. (I hate having to mail in returns.)

If you have a children's resale/consignment shop nearby, they usually have a rack or two of maternity clothes.

How far along are you going to be? You might be able to find a cute non-maternity dress with stretchy fabric and an empire waist at Marshall's or Kohl's. Oh yeah, and Kohl's has cute maternity stuff for pretty cheap. Just don't cut off the tags, and if it no longer fits you in a month, you can still return it. Good luck!

I think every mom should be able to buy herself something new to wear to the baby shower. That's not always an option, but there are creative ways around it.

Childrens resale Stores often have a maternity section. Also, the style of shirts right now is shiny, open, flowy, empire waists, etc, you could buy a shirt that is not in the maternity section that you will still be able to wear after the baby. You already have the pants.
I found some gorgeous tops at Motherhood Maternity on clearance. Some of them can be worn even after baby.

Motherhood maternity! Most of their spring/summer dresses are well under $50. Maternity dresses are made to last through the last two trimesters. Their dresses are cute and reasonable. JC Penney used to carry decent maternity clothing as well.

Do you have a friend you could borrow from?

When my sister was pregnant, they had literally 5 black tie weddings to attend. There was no way she was going to buy 2 maternity gowns, so she went to the REnt the Runway website and literally borrowed a maternity evening gown for the weekend. Most of the dresses were under $100 for evening gowns, so I would think that "summer dresses" would be even less!

I wear long skirts, hippy style. Pair them with a descent top and you're gold. Goodwill might have a few. I just bought a couple from Wal-mart.

Have you tried TJ Maxx or Ross? Those are GREAT stores for cheap clothes and dresses!!! Ross actually has a small maternity section with shirts, skirts, pants etc. But also both stores have lots of Maxi dresses right now for summer. Those aren't maternity but they work so well when pregnant. You just might need a larger size. I bought a Maxi dress when I was like 8 month pregnant and I wore it then and after my pregnancy. I didn't even have to get a larger size. I bought an xsmall and it fit so well. So I would go there. I bet you could find a cute dress or shirt for very cheap.

Target will be less expensive than a department store. Also, I bought some very affordable blouses at Ross. Usually with maternity dresses, there is a band to tie around the waist area. This will ensure that the dress will fit in the next month. I did not have any problem with my maternity clothes not fitting in the later stages of my pregnancy. You can also get a nice nursing blouse. Many of them can accommodate a pregnant belly, but will also be useful after birth.

I don't think Target is cheap at all. I only have a few things from there and they were on clearance- they are also not very well made, as the shirts I do have from there have all pilled within a couple of washes. Although Motherhood is not my favorite for maternity clothes overall, I do think they have the cutest and most reasonably priced dresses. The most I have ever paid for a dress from there is $40, but most have been in the $25-$35 range. I wouldn't worry about it not fitting a month from now. I'm sure you will get bigger, but dresses especially are very forgiving and tend to have extra room.

Try Kohls or Target. They are pretty cheap and you can ususally find deals at Kohls online or sign up for emails and they give an extra 30% off or $20 off. I would a dress that is long and ties in the back. That way, you have room to grow. And can tie it as tight or loose as you need. If you get something short, it will just get shorter as you grow.

I would try a resale shop. I wore black pants with cute shoes and a top I found at a consignment store that was maternity size and still had the tags on it for $9.00 to my shower. I also found a cute top at Target on the sale rack that I was also considering wearing and it was $11. Sears has a decent maternity shop and so does Kohls. Size-wise it depends on the outfit. I still would get what you have been buying. I wore the same size maternity once I started to show. I am average size and height and would get a medium in most cases. Most outfits accomodate a growing belly and your shoulders don't change, so you don't want it too big.

I only ever bought 1 nice maternity outfit at a flee martket, because it looked nice on MIL. Got home, tried it on, and hated it. Just don't like the high waist that most maternity clothing has, because it makes you look bigger than what you really are. I wound up giving it to one of my friends. I used my mom's old blouses, which were a size 18 and bought a few size 10s and 12s, so all I had to do was alter them afterwards. It was a lot cheaper and less wasteful. I did all the altering myself.

I think you can buy something today b/c maternity wear does 'stretch' with you. I recommend Motherhood Maternity - they have sales all the time and the cost is reasonable when they are on sale. I bought a few dresses there for like 20 bucks and they are lovely. http://www.motherhood.com/

Their website says dresses starting at $24.95 - I think that's reasonable. I did buy some things at Old Navy but the quality is much lower and the clothes look nubby/worn after a few washes. Most of my clothes have been Motherhood and they have held up a lot better. One dress I got there when I was only 4 months. I'm 8 months now and still wear the same dress and it looks fab. When it's cold I wear leggings under it and a tank top when its warm I don't need those undergarments.

Not sure how far Nutley is from their other NJ locations -there's an outlet in Secaucus. Is that far? Also they sell Motherhood at some Macys. Def check it out. Perfect stuff for baby showers. Have fun, good luck, safe pregnancy and labor to you (when the time comes).
