If you live in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell or ZIP Code 75287 in Denton County, contact Metrocrest Social Services: http://www.metrocrestsocialservices.org/
They are a wonderful organization and they can help you. If you don't live in any of those areas, call Metrocrest and they can refer you to an agency that serves your area.

Good luck to you!

Hi S.,
My last job was from corporate america...the first thing I would ask is if you have been paying into long term/short term disability because if so you can collect a percentage of your wages. If not, then see if your job offers EAP--or something similar. It is an employee resource group for when you have "issues" and need to talk to somebody for guidance. Often times they are familiar with if the job has a way of helping that they don't "advertise". I have found that a lot of times companies don't come to you to offer help, but they have ways of helping if you petition them.
Good Luck

You had received a lot of advice on the post in September, did any of those help? If you can possibly post a follow-up with any of the advice that did help, it may be very helpful to others in your situation.

I know of people in your same position that had to go back to work after 3 weeks. You may have to cut your maternity leave short, unfortunately if your employer does not provide assistance. Are you getting a c-section? If so, I thought there was some sort of law in place. Can you save between now and then so that you can pay those bills while you are out? It sounds like you will just need to pay one months of bills while you are out. Hopefully, you will get some other ideas.

S. it sounds like your in a tough situation. Where is the father in all of this? Where is your family? Do you have any close friends? Will either of them help out? What type of work are you in? Do you really need a car to get around? Is there a church you regularly attend? If you don't attend a church maybe you could ask them where to find help. There is all kinds of services. Have you tried asking at WIC if they can get you connected to some one? Christian Community Action or the CCA in Lewisville might be able to help. Good Luck and God Bless your baby.

I was working in a situation where were forced to stop working at 6 months, which was best in my work situation, we (all of the preg. moms) were able to file for unemployment during part of our maternity leave, we were typically out of work for 6 months total, (3 months before and 12 weeks FMLA after the birth, some shorter if thy chose and were released by their Dr to return to work). we were able to file because were were capable of working just not our regular job and since there was no "light duty" work that we could do we were basically unable to work, thus the ability to collect unemployment till the baby was born or we were medically unable to work at all. but once the baby was born we were no longer able to work so we could not file at that point. Also keep in mind you have to be out of work for two weeks before you can file for unemployment and you do have to seek new/temporary employment while collecting unemployment. but realistically in your situation employers will not be willing to hire you if you are not going to be a long term working employee.

another option is as long as you are able you might ask around for some business people that just might need you to do errands for them, for hire! I have an Attorney friend that would gladly have someone take her car to get washed, oil change, light shopping or groceries. she doesn't live any where near here so I can't refer you to her but she always says that she would love to have a SAHM to do these small errands for her... you might be able to start with your co workers as a resource. these are small things that you could do even after the baby is born and ready to get out of the house,

Some pregnancy crisis centers will also help you find resources to support yourself, there is one in Grapevine that is supposed to be very good about this kind of thing. good luck

I am pregnant with my fith child. Every one of those babies I worked up until went directly to the hospital to deliver. I took two weeks off and went right back to work. There is no reason why you should be off work for months at a time especially when you need the money so badly. You're already geting assistance so my advice is to stay in that job until your water breaks.

Call that hotline number for the state, 211, which purports to connect people in need with resources that are available locally. Also various church community service groups can be approached. You don't typically have to be a member of their church. United Way may point the way to some resources.

Do do you currently work? If so then the only advice I can give you is that you don't have to take a full 6-8 weeks off. I know people who have gone back to work after three weeks because they didn't have any maternity leave. I know it will be very difficult, but it might be something you have to do. If you have tried all the places the other people have told you about then this might be your only option.

Call the medicaid office and ask them. There's a program called TANF that can help you out. A friend of mine used it while she was on bed rest and maternity leave. Sorry I don't know details, but if you call your medicaid office they should be able to fill you in.
