Hello,

Just found out a little while ago I am expecting my first baby. I was wondering if anyone knew of any great maternity packages in Arizona? I just left my job and going to a new one but there insurance wont be kicked in until 90 days. I have heard there are some maternity package plans in hospitals or medical centers that will include prenatal care, ultra sounds, tests and delivery and such. I was just seeing if anyone has any preferences on these?

What can I do next?

If you would like details about my experience, PM me. Both of my deliveries (1 c-section, 1 VBAC) were at Scottsdale Healthcare Shea, and I would be happy to answer any questions about them as well.

Pay to continue your old insurance with COBRA until you are covered under your new job. Stay insured if at all possible. An uneventful pregnancy can get expensive and any complications will skyrocket the costs. Why risk being uninsured at this time?

When you leave a position, you might be eligible for COBRA insurance. It is very expensive, but it is coverage if you are not able to find anything else. It might also help you bridge your insurance til you are eligible in your new job. Congrats on your pregnancy~

My suggestion to you is to talk to the OB/GYN and ask him/her what insurance programs they are using and which ones offer you the best benefits for care during pregnancy. I am sure that they will be most helpful to you and your baby. I think this is a good place to start. I hope you find what you are looking for.
Enjoy your pregnancy, get a lot of rest and SMILE for you and your baby!

I suggest you talk to your new HR, like NOW.
I don't know who you've "heard" from, maybe you should ask them (?) because I've never heard of what you're talking about, at least not in the US.

I doubt that your new insurance will cover your pregnancy AT ALL. You need to be on COBRA until the baby is born. Yes, you'll be double-covered by insurance, but the pregnancy and delivery will be covered by COBRA. It's so important. Pre-term labor (which I had) will cost a fortune. A difficult delivery and a longer hospital stay will cost you a lot. Don't get caught without insurance, K.. You will need to sign up for COBRA within 30 days of your last day of work, and you'll need to make sure that you ARE signed up for insurance through your work in the first 30 days of your new job.

Congrats on your pregnancy.

I have no idea what you are talking about regarding "maternity packages".

As for your new position, your old company should send you information regarding COBRA. Sign up! You need to stay covered. Talk to HR in your new company and find out how the pregnancy and insurance will be handled.

Also, review the maternity policy with your company. I don't know how long you have been there, but you may not qualify for FMLA when the baby is born so see if the company has some type of policy regarding maternity.

Congratulations!!

First of all, great question!! The insurance world is soooo confusing and I have had various issues with it over the years on group and individual insurances through my own business, which works under insurance and in group plans through my employer. This is my 4th child and we do not have maternity coverage on our individual insurance either. Yes, the Drs offices and hospitals have "packages" that are reduced rates for cash pay however for banner desert we are responsible for $7300 for just hospital stay/birth without complications and roughly $3300 with myOB which includes Dr visits, 2 ultrasounds, birth and post op care at 6 weeks. I spoke with my insurance yesterday, Humana, and these charges even paid out of pocket do NOT count towards meeting my deductible... Arghhhh... Very frustrating....my recommendations to you would be to look into individual maternity packages online, Cobra, and find out nitty gritty details about new insurance. Also, there are federal law changes going into effect through Obamacare in 2014 that impact pregnant women that may have influence on your decision. You can also seek out insurance broker for more advice.. Sooner than later make your decision as insurance is HELL and know that it will work out!
