For Math:
www.khanacademy.org
GREAT site, for any age, even adults. Even Bill Gates is a fan of this site and uses it. It is free.
The method, is even being adopted by some schools. Because of its and this sites, success.
My kids, who are 5 and 9, use it.
Site words:

The Dolch site words, is what schools use.
This is a free site.
What grade is your child, and what age????
Because, this makes a difference.
Kids, also need to learn phonics. SOUNDING out the words, knowing what sound each alphabet makes... etc. This is ALL a part of reading... and in figuring out site words and how to pronounce, it.
Then there is just plain memorization.
But the kid still has to understand the reasoning behind it.
Learning encompasses memorization AND.... learning the basics behind it. Otherwise, it won't make sense. And then, when math or reading gets more complex... they won't understand it. Because, they won't have the basic understanding, down pat.

This is my sons practice website for school.
www.sadlier-oxford.com
Funbrain.com has some fun games...
One I just saw is "Math Baseball" ... you can select the type of problems and difficulty.
We are subscribers of starfall plus, or extra or something, they have math on there, multiplication and addition/subtraction facts.
It is $30 a year, which is worth it I think.
Funbrain is good too, and one we really like which is a lot of fun is uptoten.com
I second Khan academy - I use this myself for my college algebra, and also if you want to pay a little, for $20 a month time4learning.com
www.arcademics.com and www.starfall.com are pretty good
This might be a learning styles issue. Kids who don't do well with flashcards are often kids who can not learn with drills on a computer easily either. They are pretty much the same teaching method.
Often these kids are called "Right Brain" learners. Sounds like your kids might be auditory (hearing) and possibly kinethetic (need to actually do something hands on to drive the information home) learners.
There are really good math fact programs that use a special "type" of flashcard that helps them memorize their math facts (and other subjects including sight words too) very quickly. Often they only need to spend about 1/2 and hour per fact family and they have them memorized for life...using these special cards.
Check out the following websites on what it means to be a "Right Brain" learner, how to modify school lessons so they can learn their material fast and well, and how to where to find the products and additional help for your child if you need it.
I have Right Brain learners and have successfully used these teaching methods (I'm a homeschooler) and I can tell you the results are amazing!
