Moms I need help! I gained 60 lbs with my daughter and lost 65 lbs of the weight! YAY! But recently I got an IUD put in and I believe it is the cause of my weight gain (and a combo of my eating habits). I know about exercise and eating right, I just need to know what some of you moms eat that are easy to make and healthy. Ive got to get rid of this extra 10 lbs! Thanks in advance!!!

What can I do next?

Not the answer to your question, but I am wondering why you and your ob/gyn choose the IUD for birth control. If you look at the website or see the commericials for IUD's like Mirania the first qriteria is a monagamous relationship, which the serial monogamy does not fall under. You may fall into this safe zone but you partner may not. The string habors bacteria and infection.
Anyway to my knowledge the IUD does not contain any hormones so wt gain shouldnt be a side effect, right. Ithink portion size is a big part of my wt, so I have started using small plates and not going back for seconds. Also have added fruit which really is good and good for you.

Good luck and enjoy your daughter they grow way to fast.

Good job on losing all that weight! I also gained over the recommended amount, but lost it all. I had the mirena IUD and didn't notice any weight gain from it. Although just had it taken out a week ago, so we shall see.
Definately portion control. Make sure you aren't eating white breads or flour. Only whole grains!
I am not much of a carb person, so I know that helps me. I eat a salad with veggies and chicken every day for lunch, with a non-cream based salad dressing. I have gotten to the point now that my body requires lots of veggies and I don't feel right with out them. They are filling and very low cal for the most part.
Of course, exercise a lot.
Given that you lost all the baby weight, I am sure you know most of this though.
Good luck!

Hey S.,

Congrats on the weight loss! Way to go! My biggest problem with keeping the weight off is that with the hectic lifestyle we all lead (especially you as a single mom), I would just eat whatever I had that was fast and easy.

I saw something on the web and thought I would try it out - you cook for a day and eat for a month. I found two of these cookbooks at the library. I made a few of the meals and put single serve portions in the freezer. This way, I can get out whatever I want and stick it in the fridge to thaw. It's usually thawed by the time I get home and voila, dinner is served.

Good luck with those last 10 pounds! You can do it!

Check out www.fitnessmagazine.com, and both Fitness magazine and Women's Health. I've found some good recipes there. I especially like the "Skinny Jeans Diet" on the website for quick meal ideas. Good luck!

Okay-- in the freezer section of the grocery store try one or more of these
Morningstar Farms Grillers burger (my fave)
Boca Burger
Turkey Burger(look at the fat before you buy, some are way fattening!)

Throw one of the above patties on a whole grain or regular english muffin and have the fixins ready ahead, like tomato lettuce, onion, pickle whatever you like. Its way satisfying and fast to make.

I don't have any meal ideas for you, but I am a snacker...I know it sounds kind of a goof ball thing to do for yourself, but give yourself permission to snack, but make sure they are healthy snacks and even go so far as to portion them out in advance, and if you are up to it even make a menu in advance, this has helped because I like to meal plan for the week. I like a variety of fresh fruits that I can make into small fresh fruit salads, chopped veggies that hold up over a couple days are anything crunchy...peppers, carrots, celery. One of my favorite sweet crunchy craving pleasers are a lot of the granola bars you can buy are 90 calories or less...you just have to look and see. I find I save money by packaging my own goodies into individual baggies rather than pay for the little low cal pre packaged goodies = ) Good luck with your weight loss.

First of all, good job!

Here are some ideas that might help:
smoothies (frozen fruit and plain yogurt)
hummus with cut-up veggies (carrots, celery, broccoli, etc)
lots of veggies for your side dishes. I like to stir-fry mine with apples whenever possible.
soups can be really great, too. Lentil soup has become a favorite.
eat ethnic! tofu stir-fry, Indian curry, Vietnamese pho, etc.

Good luck!
