Was wondering if anyone has ever tried one of these places where you can go prepare your meals for a week in advance using their recipes and fresh ingredients. I think I heard there was one in Plainfield. This is a new concept but interests me and I was wondering what the cost was and how it worked out. Thanks!

Hi,

I haven't tried this at all, but I think I saw an ad in the Chicago Parent magazine or Family time magazine. (I get these from my library) I thought it was in Tinley Park. I'll have to look when I get home and I'll let you know what I find out. I think it's pretty comparable to going to the grocery store. I saw something about it on the news about a month ago. Hope this helps a little bit.

Thanks,
S.

My neighbor and I go to dinner by design in plainfield, but you make either 12meals for a family of 6 for 199$ or you can split them and make 24 meals for a family of 3 (which I do) for 199$...There website is dinnerbydesignkitchen.com and it will give you the menu for this month and next month..There are only about 15 things and so far it has been good..some meals we like some I could make better, but it is a really neat experience and you tweak your own things if you do not like spicy do not put spicy in it or if you like more of one thing you can make it all your own way...
Good luck,
M.

They DO have one in plainfield. Dinner by design (www.dinnerbydesignkitchen.com) From what I read it costs about $200 for 12 meals. And it takes about 2 hours. I haven't done it yet, but like you I am interested and my girlfriend and I plan on trying it.

I believe there's one in Palos Heights, and it was the topic of conversation at the park a few months ago. I heard someone say that they give you enough food for 18-20 meals and it cost somewhere around $200-225. If that's correct, I think it's a great deal. Someone else shopping and chopping?

Actually I have. I have gone to Simply Homemade in Naperville (at 111th & 59). Check out this link, it gives you info and prices.

The only thing I don't like about this is you don't really know if you are going to like something until you cook it. There have been a few I just haven't liked all that much, but for the most part, this is GREAT!

Hi L.,

I go to Dream Dinners (www.dreamdinners.com) in Naperville. It's on Ogden Ave. I can NOT say enough good things about this place! I went last month for the first time. My husband and I went again last Friday night because they have a 'Couple's Night' once a month. People think that it is expensive at first, but really it's not. For 12 meals, it's around $200. Each meal, though, is enough to feed 4-6 people SO each meal last me and my husband 2 days. It breaks down to about $4/meal per person. One of my favorite things about it is that I don't have to plan meals anymore, I don't have to walk aimlessly around the grocery store wondering what to buy, and I don't have to buy tons of different ingredients for one meal. The headache of cooking is gone. You just pull out 3 meals out of the freezer on Sunday, and you are good to go for the week. They also list suggestions as to what to serve with each dish. When you go to Dream Dinners, they also serve food and drinks (free). The first time I went, I went with a lady that had been to other places like Dream Dinners, but she said that Dream Dinners is by far the best. She said that they are extremely helpful there. Anyway, I could go on and on. Just visit the webiste. (By the way, Dream Dinners was started by 2 busy moms who were sick of spending time in the kitchen instead of with their children). Have fun and happy eating!

I have done the simply homemade at 111th and 59. If we can get enough people I think its 10 then the organizer gets $50 off. I was tryign to get a group and just get $5 off everyone but I could never get enough people. Anyway its very nice, it makes meals a lot easier for sure!!! I believe they were $140 for 8 meals. check out there site. http://www.simply-homemade.com/home.html
