I am making meats balls for 11 people, mainly for sandwiches, how many lbs of ground beef would you use? Thanks!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks ladies! I think I will do 4 lbs just to be extra safe. We are going to our cabin up north and will be there all day, so if we have left overs for later that would be great too!

1 lb for every 2-3 people, so I would do 4 lbs. Id rather have too much than not enough. You could probably buy a bag of frozen meatballs and heat them in the oven if you wwanted to. They tend to hold up better in sandwiches, though the homemade ones are tastier.

I usually get 12 meatballs or so out of one pound (small ones). Make enough for 2-3 meatballs per person. So, I would go with 3lbs.

I agree with the three pounds - quarter pound per person -- although when in doubt, I always try to make more than I need and freeze the overage for later!

If the main part of the meal is meatballs, like meatball sandwiches, I'd use at least 1/2 lb per person. If you're doing meatballs in a meal like spaghetti I'd do 3-4 meatballs per person. For regular old meatballs on a bed of oven steamed rice I'd use more like 1/3 to 1/2 lb per person. It also depends on if it's men, mixed adults, families with kids, etc....each of those groups will eat meat in different amounts.

Are you going to serve the food on plates already made up or do family style dining passing the food around or buffet style? This makes a huge difference. Putting how much food you want on their plate then handing it our makes you have total control on how much they get, buffet style is a free for all where they could actually take all the meat and leave non for the others.

I'd say plan on 1/2 lb per person and if there are any left over you can do meatball sandwiches a day or two later or just freeze them for a few days too.

I would just get a 5 lb chub from Walmart and be done with the trying to figure it out...lol. That should be enough.

I would use two pounds of ground beef, one pound ground pork and one pound ground veal. Four pounds total, freeze the leftovers, but when I make meatballs there never are any :-)

depends upon how big you want the meatballs...I would typically use 3lbs of hamburger...I chop up onion and garlic too...what time do I come over???

Check you recipe for the yield. Depends on how much you add to the meat to make the meatballs. I would like to have enough for each person to have 2 sandwiches each. If they are still hungry after all that, they can hit the drive through on the way home.
