Medela Breastpump Help

I purchased the Medela Pump N Style breastpump to use with my son. He is now four months old and I'm having the worst time with the pump. It's worked wonderfully up until a couple of weeks ago. There is barely any suction or sometimes no suction at all. I've read through the manual and tried everything they suggest. I've tried cleaning and boiling all of the accessories to make sure nothing is clogged. Nothing helps! My breasts are so engorged right now because they're not being emptied. I've not been able to pump anything at all since yesterday morning and even then, it was very little. Does anyone have any suggestions? Has this happened to anyone else?

What can I do next?

Thanks so much for all the responses. My pump is working like new. I feel better, too!

I had the same problem off & on. I noticed that if I kind of held the cup on real tight while I was pumping this would work. I think if there is any air in there at all it just doesn't work right. You might try holding it tight while you do it. Good Luck!

I know this hurts, I had that problem too. Does it feel like it has suction if it is just against your skin? You may need to hand express to lessen the engorgement. Put one hand on the top of the breast and one on the bottom up next to your chest. Next roll and press as you move down toward the nipple. If you do this while in a warm to hot shower it will help with the engorgement and then maybe you'll be able to pump again. My first pump was a single and that didn't work for me after 2 or 3 weeks. I went to a double (both at once) and quit having any problems. I don't know why but it worked better for me. Hope this has been helpful. God Bless!

I used the First Years Breast pump and it was great. Good Suction and not expensive. Also to relieve engorgement, let him suck. Or go take a shower and try squeezing some of the milk out by hand.

Mine is several years old, but I used it with both children, have you replaced the little white ( I think ) they are called membranes? or checked the cover area were the suction adjust.
