Does anyone have any suggestions for medical insurance in Texas for children other than Medicaid? I have a friend that is divorced and husband has lost his job and can no longer provide medical insurance through his employment.
Thanks for your suggestions.
If it has been less than 30 days (possibly 90) he can sign them up for COBRA, continuing ins through his emplyer. In fact, if there is a court decision that he must provide the kids health ins, he better get cracking. He needs to call the HR dept of his old job.
:)
They can also call United Way.
I was at Care Now yesterday and I saw a brochure but I didn't read it, it said something about medical coverage for families for less that $20 a month, but I would assume it is just routine care, not sure, like I said I didn't read it but it wouldn't hurt to check it out...
There are no children only policies any longer due to the laws passed last year, except for CHIP and Medicaid. Children have to be on a policy with an adult unless they were grandfathered in. I was looking for insurance for one of my girls and this is what I was told by our insurance person. I've always had private policies for my girls and we were going to change to another carrier and that is when I found out that in Texas, kids can no longer be on a private policy on their own.
