my 4-year-old is getting very bad dandruff on his scalp, it looks almost like cradle cap when he was a baby, people told me to get medicated shampoo, I prefer something, mild and gentle, can you recommended anything?

Thanks.

Have you ever heard of Melaleuca? They have great skin care products and they are natural. They have a special shampoo for dandruff and works great. Let me know if you would like more information on that. I might have to help you with opening an account with them.

HI CJ,

Head & Shoulders. That is what my pedi suggested for my son with the same problem. It works great.

Tea Tree Shampoo from Paul Mitchell!!!! Our family swears by this shampoo and we also buy the dog version for our dogs who get itchy skin during the winters! As with any shampoos though you are going to want to make sure he keeps his eyes closes so it does not get in them. Also, rinse with luke warm- body temp- water.

Also, make sure you are rinsing well and with clean water not bath water. Lots of times kids will also play in the "dirty" tub water after washing and get it all back on their scalps. This can cause the problems you are talking about.

Good luck with this, I know how frustrating it can be! Blessings to all!

I use a gentle shampoo from Whole Foods (Nature's Gate) but I also use a super-fine toothed surgical scrub brush to gently brush off the cradle cap once he has washed his hair. My son has had this for many years, but it seems to be getting better. He also has allergies, so that may have something to do with it.

Head and Shoulders, or I have also used a shampoo with tea tree oil. I have also bought the tea tree essential oil from the healthfood store, and rubbed some of that on the scalp and then shampooed.

My now 7 yr old had the crusty scalp as well until just recently. It is now gone.
